Author's Note: This is just a short one-part fan fiction. The idea sprang to my head as I was working on the next chapter to "Simply Ideal". (The next chapter of "Simply Ideal" will hopefully be up shortly – I'm having a little writer's block.) Reviews are greatly appreciated! =)
Rory Gilmore stifled a yawn, as she listened to yet another of her boyfriend's recurrent stories. She didn't mean to be rude, but she just couldn't help it. He could drone on for hours on end – there was no stopping him.
"I'm telling you, you would have loved the movie," Dean Forrester insisted.
No, I wouldn't. Believe me.
"I doubt it," Rory smiled politely.
"I thought you liked the book," Dean sounded confused.
"I did."
"And you still didn't want to watch the movie version?"
How many times have we gone through this? I've lost track.
Rory bit her lip, and reminded herself to stay cool and calm. "The book was wonderful, but Hollywood has been known to slaughter the author's viewpoint. I personally think the book is better than the script."
Dean grinned. "I'm not surprised. It still would have been nice if you had come along."
Rory gave a small smile. She took a sip of her coffee, and looked outside the window. Layers of snow were planted outside, with more fresh snow falling from the sky. It was almost a perfect day…
It seems like everybody is changing – at the same time. Weird. Maybe they've always been like this, and I'm just now realizing it. Has Dean always been like this?Rory glanced around the diner, apparently looking for someone. When she turned her head back to the table, Dean was looking at her.
"Something wrong?"
Rory shook her head. "No."
Dean nodded, and took a sip of his Coke. A small gust of wind entered the diner, and Rory turned around to see what it was. Luke and Jess were bringing in a new shipment of boxes into the diner.
"Thanks, Caesar!" Luke called out, as he and Jess went to the kitchen.
"So, what do you think of that new Spielberg flick?" Dean asked.
"What? Ah, I'm not sure…" Rory listened as Dean began critiquing the film. She was in dire need of some coffee. She had taken her last sip minutes ago.
A Gilmore should not be bored, and lack coffee simultaneously. That's just wrong.
She saw Jess enter the diner again. He looked at her, and gave her a small smile. The one that was reserved for her. She blushed, and smiled back.
Dean was completely oblivious to all this.
They say you always want the unattainable…but what if the unattainable is within reach?
