Just a short one-shot about what I think happened after Exsistance. Please read/review!

I own nothing, the brilliance behind these characters belongs to Chris Carter.

Scully didn't know how long they stayed like that, and she didn't really care. She could kiss him for hours. Everything she'd been feeling the whole time they were looking for him, the whole time he was so cold to her because he didn't know the Truth, through her trip with Agent Reyes, when Mulder found them, when she saw that her baby was a perfectly normal little boy, every little feeling, was in that single kiss. She finally felt safe, having both her baby and Mulder with her, and she was, for the first time in a very, very long time, happy.

So she continued to kiss her partner. With one hand wrapped securely around his elbow and the other resting on his hip, she wished she could pull him closer but she loved the feeling of their baby between them. Because it was their baby, she was sure of it. The babies she had seen in jars in the doctor's office did not look human, and their cries were distorted and, well, alien. William was 100% human. Not only that, but Scully just knew. He was Mulder's.

Scully only broke away from Mulder when she felt a tiny hand on her chin. She looked down at her son, their son, and could not contain her smile. He had one pudgy hand on Scully's chin and the other hovering somewhere around Mulder's sternum. She hoped with everything she had that William would inherit his father's height and not hers. There were so many things she hoped for this baby, many of them she knew may never happen, but that's a side-effect of being a mother. You no longer have dreams for yourself, you have them for your child. Scully hoped that her son's hair would stay red, she hoped that he would love baseball, she hoped that his first word would be phalange, she hoped that he would never get caught up in his father's quest for the truth about what's out there. Although she wouldn't change a single second of their lives together, she would never wish it on anyone else, let alone their own son.

Scully looked away from William and up at her partner's face. Even though he didn't even work on the X Files anymore, she still considered him her partner. That's what he was, and what he always would be. Mulder was gazing at the baby with such a look of pure happiness on his face Scully couldn't help but laugh a little. "What?" Mulder asked, tearing his eyes away from his son.

"Nothing." Scully just smiled and led him over to the bed. She laid down with a sleepy William beside her and Mulder climbed in on his side. The boys both quickly fell asleep, and Scully was a little taken aback with how much they looked alike when they were sleeping. They both did this adorable little crinkly thing with their eyebrows.

Maybe tomorrow they would get news about Billy Michaels or Agent Doggett would call with something about the super soldiers, but that didn't matter, because right then, in that moment, everything in Dana Scully's life was perfect.
