Disclaimer: I do not own Fruits Basket.
My first Fruits Basket story. Sigh. It's a bit short. Sorry.
Aishiteru, Itsumademo II: Misunderstandings
Part I: The Misunderstanding
"Tohru?"
"Yes, Uo-chan?"
"Are you done dressing up?"
Honda Tohru spun around, wearing her school uniform and smiling brightly. She drew the curtains aside and spoke to her friend who was waiting for her to finish changing. "I'm not dressing up. I'm going to school." Her tone was light and cheerful, but on the inside, she felt a little dizzy.
"But... You sure you're okay now?" Uo's face wrinkled in concern. "That was some fever you got last night. Mom and Dad were worried sick."
"I'm fine," insisted Tohru. "Don't worry."
"Okay... Fine," Uo said reluctantly. "But you'd better make sure that you won't faint in school, all right?"
Tohru nodded. "I promise."
.ooOoo.
Tohru made it through the whole morning without fainting or feeling weak. As soon as the lunch bell rang, she dashed off to the canteen and bumped into someone.
"Ah! Gomen," she said frantically.
"No, it's all right..."
Wait a minute. That voice...
"Where are you going in such a rush..." his voice was low and smooth. "...Honda-san?"
Tohru froze. "So-Sohma-kun..."
Sohma Yuki gave her a concerned look. "Are you feeling all right? You look a little pale..."
"I-I'm fine!" she said instantly. "Don't worry about me, Sohma-kun. I'm perfectly fine!" Actually, she felt dizzy again.
Yuki didn't look like he bought her lie. "Okay..."
Tohru exhaled in relief. She felt so nervous talking to the prince that she doesn't know what to talk about with him.
He just gives this mysterious aura...
"Are you going somewhere?" His voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Hai!" she said. "I'm supposed to meet Uo-chan and Hana-chan in the canteen."
"Can I go with you?"
His question caught her off guard. "Wh-What..? Oh, sure! Y-You're welcome anytime!" She could feel the piercing glares the Prince Yuki Fan Club was giving her right now. She felt confused. She didn't know why they were doing that.
"Thank you." He nodded at her. "Let's go."
Tohru smiled at him with pure happiness in her eyes. She wanted to be friends with him. She wanted to get to know him. This was her chance.
.ooOoo.
"So prince..." Uo studied Yuki's face. After a few seconds, she looked satisfied. "You are pretty. Just like the rumors said..."
Yuki blushed in embarrassment. "I-I'm not pretty..."
"Yeah, Uo-chan," Tohru said bluntly, chewing on a burger. "He's not pretty. He's handsome."
The three of them stared at her, shock evident on their faces. Tohru, realizing what she had just said, blushed different shades of red. "I-I..." She didn't know what to say. "I d-didn't mean to say that out l-loud..."
Yuki lowered his head. Uo laughed maniacally. Hana looked amused.
"Do you like him, Tohru?" Hana asked.
Tohru instantly panicked. "I-I-Iie! I-I like..." Her eyes searched around the room until it came to rest on a boy. "Him!" she gestured to the boy. "I like him..."
Now Uo stopped laughing. Yuki raised his head, glowering at the boy. He muttered something under his breath which Tohru heard as 'baka neko'. Hana stared at Tohru in bewilderment.
"Tohru," hissed Uo. "You like Sohma Kyo? The prince's cousin?"
Tohru's eyes widened. "C-C-Cousin?"
Hahaha! I think this will be interesting...
BTW, I'll be following both the manga and anime in this story, okay? ^_^
