A man opens his eyes, and finds himself inside a cube room. Rather than panicking the man just nods in recognition. He knows where he is. He sits down in the corner, closes his eyes and starts to think.

We see him in a workshop, with a tiny cube on a workbench. The cube is hooked up to computer. He types in commands on the computer, the cubes start moving out of alignment, some going outside the main structure, making room for other to move. He smiles as he sees the little model moving; occasionally he alters the program, or speeds up the movement of the tiny cubes.
After a while he stops the program, and unhooks the model from the computer. He separates one cube from the main model. Holding it in a vice he turns some tiny screws on the centre of each face. This takes some time, as he seems to be doing it from memory. He replaces the cube in the main model.

A phone rings:
"The program? Yes, it seems to be working now. A few teething problems, but I have ironed them out. What's this for anyway"

"Ah so its like a brain teaser puzzle or something?... Yes, you will have the program by the end of the day"

He puts down the phone and takes out a marker. He marks a dot on the face of the cube that he had just put back. He starts the program, and keeps his eye on the cube he put back in. He watches it for a long time, weaving a merry dance, in and out of the model. Eventually he falls asleep, the last thing he sees is the little cube moving along the outside of the model.

He opens his eyes and surveys his surroundings. 6 doors, each with a rotary handle. He walks over to the first one and closes his eyes. He starts to turn the handle, but rather than opening the door, once it is fully rotated, he applies more pressure and gives a few extra turns. The handle tries to turn back; he pushes his body against it and tears off a strip of his shirt. He ties one end to the handle and the other to the ladder next to it. He pulls it tight, holding it in place.

He repeats the process on the other doors, the top door proving near impossible. Finally, exhausted, he sits down and waits.

After an eternity the room starts to move, occasionally stopping whilst rooms reposition. Waiting he remembers the model.

As he woke up he looked at the computer. The message on the screen read "Program complete Time elapsed 2 hours 36 minutes". Unsure of its success, he turned his head to look at the model. All the cubes were in place. Except one. One cube lay outside the main structure. Moving closer he sees a black dot on the top face of the tiny cube. He smiles.

He opens his eyes as the room finally grinds to a halt. He removes the strip that had been holding the handle and opens the door nearest to him, and sees an identical room. He walks to the opposite side and places his hand on the door. Holding his breath, he tears of the strip and opens the door.
He had heard the rumors. Heard about people disappearing. People he had spoken to regarding his program. As soon as he had woken up he had known where he was. He only hoped that they hadn't examined his program too carefully. Always put a back door in. Every program has rules, but a programmer needs to leave a path behind that only he knows. He hoped they had copied it.

He opened the door.
White light washed over him, and he breathed out.
Having no other choice, he accepted the inevitable path before him. Not knowing whether he had truly outwitted them, or they were fully aware, he steps out.
