AraTav prompt #1 Things you said at 1 AM

(Humanstuck!AU for the sake of simplicity. And yes, she's playing diamond)

"If you can find Max Revives underground, what do you think they're made of? It seems pretty suspect..." Not to mention the whole 'bringing fossils from the dead' thing, which you know is ridiculous. You can't bring stone to life. You've tried.

"'Radia, it's like one o'clock." Tavros mumbles, squinting at the bright light of the ds screen. You passed that stage of sleepiness hours ago.

"I want to finish this one. Then I'll turn it off, I promise." You respond lightly, only half paying attention to his words. You know he's right, you should be joining him on the couch and getting some shut eye. It's his fault for getting you into this game though! Who would've thought Pokemon had a spelunking feature?

Tavros snorts with disbelief. "Uh, yeah. Sure you will, you nerd."

"Love you too, Tav." You respond immediately.

Your name is Aradia Megido and you may've just made a horrible mistake.

It takes a full second for your words to catch up with your head, and a few more for blood to color your cheeks. Oh no. If you had any chance of playing it off as a friendly 'I love you' it's gone now.

God, why would you even say that? He's your best friend! You scold yourself.

"What?" Tavros asks after what seems like an eternity, the couch springs squeaking when he sits up.

"I..." You start, looking down at your fuzzy pink socks. You fleetingly wish to be one of the blob-like ghosts adorning them. Ghosts don't have to worry about accidentally confessing to their best friends after all.

Tavros's laughter brings you back to the present, the sound bringing an involuntary smile to your face. "Aww." He says, throwing one arm around your shoulders.

You look at him out of the corner of your eyes and remain silent.

"I think it's, uh, time for bed, 'Radia." He laughs.

"What?" You ask, allowing him to take the game from your hands.

"You're in that... weirdly affectionate phase of sleepiness." He answers with a grin.

He thinks I'm joking? You realize abruptly. "Tavros..." You say, pressing your lips in a thin line. I mean it. I love you. You want to tell him almost as much as you want to forget this ever happened.

He likes Vriska, you remind yourself. He's my best friend.

Tavros appears to be completely oblivious to your inner turmoil as he pulls a blanket over your shoulders and leads you to your usual space on the couch. He curls up on the other side with a yawn, "Night, 'Radia."

"Goodnight, Tav." You sigh.

Maybe next time you'll tell him. For real.
