I don't know what this is. Like most of my one shots, this was born out of my insomnia, and some thoughts and head cannons I had about Zelena. I don't think it's that bad, so I decided to post it. Once I get some sleep I might regret that decision, lol.

She's never known what it was like to be loved back.

She loved, she had loved many times, but they never loved her back.

She loved her father. When her mother died (not her real mother, but the only mother she's ever truly known) she cooked, she cleaned, she shaved her father's face when the scruff became unbearable for him.

She tried her hardest to be the perfect daughter. She tried her hardest to be someone he could love. He didn't. He couldn't.

When she finds out about her real mother, she finds herself loving her, finds herself loving the idea of everything her mother could have given her, everything that her bratty little sister had and didn't even want. What she didn't even deserve.

She had loved a man with scaly skin and a penchant for riddles and deals. Her first love, and she had thought that maybe, just maybe she would get lucky and he would love her back, but he didn't. He couldn't. She wasn't even good enough to cast his stupid curse.

She becomes the Wicked Witch. She has minions in the form of flying monkeys that do her bidding, she has a castle, she controls the entire realm of Oz. She's powerful. She loves it, the power, the wicked magic that flows through her veins.

Then the so called Good Witch, someone she thought could be a friend, traps her magic into a amulet, and she doesn't even have that anymore.

When she meets her sister, her sister who got everything and didn't deserve it, her sister who didn't even work for a thing, well, she doesn't even try to love her (she knows the self proclaimed Evil Queen wouldn't love her anyway, and that frustrates her). She decides that she's gonna take away everything that made the bratty queen happy.

When her first love tries to kill her, her essence finds her sister's first love and oh, she loves it, loves that she's finally going to make her sister miserable, as miserable as she's been her entire life. The honorable archer resumes his place as her husband, but she can see it in his eyes, he doesn't love her.

Even as someone else, she can't get someone to love her (not that she loves the thief, far from it, but she had assumed he would love her, his "wife").

However, in the end, she gets the so called honorable thief to make love to her (she ignores the fact that his eyes are closed the entire time).

And she ends up with a baby in her womb that she never really wanted, never even thought about having, but finds herself loving, finds herself speaking to alone in her cell in the late hours of the night, despite the fact that she'll probably be a terrible mother. She loves her baby, her baby girl.

But she doesn't love her.

She doesn't settle in her arms. She wails, cries at the top of her little lungs until her sister, her sister who has everything and didn't even deserve anything takes her, cradles her in her arms, makes these little cooing noises, that the baby calms.

Her own daughter, her own flesh, doesn't love her. Can't love her.

Maybe she's not meant to be loved.
