A/N: Well, this story came about as the result of an English project after reading LotF. The assignment was to either write a diary for one of the littleuns, or write an alternate ending of the book. It needed to be at least seven paragraphs (which we far exceeded), and was a pair project. This was co-written with Autumn Lily, whom I note finally submitted two stories about a year ago, but she prefers to just write character profiles and think of stories that could go with them, rather than actually writing the stories.

Anyway, the project for school is two chapters long with a prologue and epilogue, but we intend to extend the epilogue for here. The prologue continues immediately after the book ends.

Disclaimer: All characters belong to William Golding, we just decided to twist around the actual plot to fit our English project.

Prologue

The officer turned back to the boys after a few minutes, getting impatient.

"All right, all right, pull yourselves together; I have to get you boys back to England."

Stunned, all the boys stopped crying. A few littleuns sniffled and swiped their hands across their faces. Ralph, taking the initiative, took a step forward, then stopped and turned around. He gestured for everyone on the beach to follow suit, then looked to the officer for what to do next.

The officer had already turned and was headed towards the small boat that would lead them to the trim cruiser. Ralph blinked and hurried after him, the rest of the kids falling into step behind him.

After several trips from the beach to the cruiser, Ralph making the littleuns go first, all the boys were on ship. As the cruiser started for mainland Britain, Ralph and Jack stared forlornly back at the island that had been their home.
