A/N: So I saw this art posted on tumblr: xxribbonsxx. deviantart art/Happy-V-Day-282245676?q=boost%3Apopular%20rose%20lalonde%20valentine&qo=23 , and I got the idea to write this. Kinda loosely based on the picture, I really just wanted an excuse to write some Rose and Roxy/Mom Lalonde fluffy family happiness. I don't know when this is supposed to take place but it's kind of AU I suppose? Okay enough of my rambling. Enjoy!
"Most girls want a dozen roses for Valentine's Day…But I'm okay with just one."
It was one of those rare days that she was sober; and that particular day happened to be Valentine's Day. She was determined to try to make up for all the years she had been completely intoxicated—as much as she could in a day, at least.
At half past eight that morning, she had headed to to a flower shop, and selected the nicest rose she could find. At home, she placed the flower in a vase and left it in Rose's room, along with a small note she had written.
In the afternoon she waited quietly for Rose to return from school. She carefully avoided the kitchen, trying her best to make sure that she would stay away from alcohol the rest of the day. It was very important that she be coherent when Rose got home.
It was nearly four in the afternoon when Rose returned. She stopped by the door, bending down to pet Jaspers who had been eagerly waiting for her, before heading upstairs. Meanwhile, her mother waited impatiently in her room. She had been standing in the hall, waiting to hear when Rose opened the door, and retreated back when she heard her daughter come in, knowing Rose would only want to avoid her.
It was only a few moments before Rose came in. Tears were already welling up in her eyes, and the note was clutched tightly in her hand.
"Mom…" she said quietly, almost inaudible.
"Rosey," Roxy gave a tiny smile then stood up, opening her arms wide.
Rose hesitantly stepped forward, wrapping her arms around her mother. Then she began to cry, her shoulders shaking violently. Roxy wrapped her arms tightly around her daughter, rubbing her back in an attempt to help her to stop crying. She hadn't realized how Rose would react to it, but it was definitely more than she had expected.
Rose looked up at her mother, her eyes now red and puffy. She swallowed, trying to steady herself before she spoke. "Mom, I… th-thank you…"
Roxy smiled, leaning down to place a kiss on the top of Rose's head. "Oh Rosey. You're so cute when you're happy."
Rose laughed lightly, before burrowing her face into her mother's shirt again. Roxy stroked her daughter's hair, muttering, "Shh Rosey it's okay. Shhhh."
"I fobe rou," Rose's voice was muffled.
"I love you too, Rosey."
