Late night one-shot for my best friend, Queen Elsa of the TARDIS. (I don't usually write for Frozen so you can go blame her for any possible feels that I am capable of bestowing upon the Fandom)
Disney owns Frozen.
Throughout the night the winds howled on, flashes of lightning flickering across the sky as the rain continued to pelt the castle windows. The lights had gone out, the pale glow of candlelight the only thing left to accompany the figures that roamed the hallways, their flames offering no warmth.
"Kristoff!" a voice called, heavy footsteps drawing near.
Rushing into his arms, Anna clung tightly to him, burying her face close to his chest. He held her close, confusion and worry racing through his mind as he felt her entire body tremble.
"Anna, what's wrong?" he asked immediately, brushing away the stray tears from her cheek "Did something happen?" he glanced quickly around them in fear that an intruder lurked near the dark corners of the halls.
She shook her head, "I'm just scared, that's all." she whispered, her voice shaking as she tried to stop another sob from escaping.
He didn't say anything else, knowing full well not to press on the subject too much. Instead, he hugged her close, wrapping her in his soft embrace as the loud boom of the thunder shook the walls and chandeliers.
"Let's get you into your room, okay?"
Pulling her along as their footsteps clicked and echoed through the hallway, Kristoff led her back to her bed, worry etched across his face as he noticed how quiet she had gotten.
"Anna, please, tell me what's wrong." he begged, wrapping his hands around hers once she sat down.
They were so cold.
She looked away, her eyes trailing toward the window where only water and dark, grey clouds loomed on. Her gaze distant, far off into a world Kristoff had no access to.
His heart shattered, never in his life had he seen that look before in her eyes.
Before he could let out another plea he watched as she bit her lip, letting in a rattled breath as another stream of tears fell down onto their hands.
"It's just like before..." she murmured, her voice hoarse "Just like the storm that one night... the one that... killed my parents."
Kristoff was left speechless, silence consuming the entire room once more. What could he possibly say?
For a moment he tried to figure out a way to comfort her. He thought of all the things he could possibly say, anything to just make her smile. But everything seemed like it would end in disaster.
So he gave up, deciding on doing the only thing he could do. And that was be here for her.
No matter what, he will always be here for her. He will be her support, her rock, her everything. If this is all he can give, he'll give it all. Because she was his everything.
"I love you, Anna." he whispered, kissing the top of her hand gently as he scooted closer on the bed to embrace her. "I love you. You don't have to say anything, I understand."
For awhile they remained in silence, Anna giving no indication that she had heard him. Yet he never did let go.
As more minutes passed, he waited alongside her, staring out through the same window where the rain never stopped, though had gotten considerably quieter.
Before he could begin to talk to her again, she turned to him, wiping away the tears as she smiled just the slightest.
"I love you, too, Kristoff."
She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him in a soft but passionate kiss.
And even after the rain stopped and the clouds parted to reveal warm, welcoming sunlight as well as the laughter of children outside.
They never did let go.
