From the moment he laid eyes on her, Gray knew he was screwed.
Without a doubt in his mind, she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen in his life. With her golden hair, mocha coloured eyes, and creamy, porcelain skin, it was lust at first sight. Not to mention she had the most curvaceous body he'd ever seen on a woman. Not even Erza or Mirajane could compare to the way her hips swayed or how deliciously her breasts bounced with each step she took.
It didn't take long for him to fall in love.
Because while it was true that he found her attractive, he also wanted to know her. He wanted to learn about her past and what kind of future she dreamt about. He wanted to know her strengths and weaknesses and he wanted to protect her from anything and everything.
She was like a beacon of light in his otherwise dull life.
To Gray, she was the Spring after a treacherous Winter. Where he was bland and grey, she was vibrant and colourful. She was full of life, and brave, and everything Gray was not. She was his opposite, so unlike him, and perhaps that's what drew him towards her even more.
But Gray wasn't the type of person who got what they wished for. He was cold and standoffish. He had a chance and he didn't take it because he was scared. The idea of being in love was new to him. She flirted and she teased, and he flirted and teased back. But there was nothing more than that.
And then one day she didn't look at him like that anymore. The light in her eyes that he could have had all to himself were directed at someone else, his rival no less, and suddenly Gray was nothing but a friend. He would never be anything more than that.
But that wouldn't stop him from loving her, from caring about her, because when you love someone you don't just stop.
He was stuck fantasizing about what could have been, and more realistically, what would never be. But that was okay, because as long as she was smiling and her eyes were full of life and she was happy, Gray would be okay, even if it meant that she was all of those things because of someone else.
Lucy Heartfilia was the first woman that Gray ever fell in love with. If he was being honest, he'd probably love her for the rest of his life. And even though he couldn't have her, he found that he didn't mind. Because so long as Lucy Heartfilia held his heart in her hands, he was invincible.
