Houston's First Word

"Ah" Houston squealed as he sat on the couch next to Nick who was holding baby Johnna in his arms.

"Be careful buddy." Nick instructed as he grabbed Houston's hand when he went to touch the baby.

"Gentle, there you go, that's a good big brother." Nick said with a smile when Houston lovingly touched the baby's foot.

Houston sat there for a couple minutes and then climbed down off of the couch and went to see what Jasmine was up to on the other side of the room.

"Sissy." He said clear as day as he walked up to her.

Nick and Jackie looked at each other in shock.

"Did he just say sissy?" Jackie asked astounded.

"Sounded like." Nick said grinning from ear to ear.

Although he was just over a year old Houston had yet to say an actual word. This had worried Nick and Jackie at first but Houston's pediatrician had assured them that children do things at their own rate and Houston's delayed speech shouldn't worry them, especially since he had reached all of his other milestones.

"Sissy." He said again.

"He did say it." Jackie said excitedly.

She was so excited that she nearly screamed it which awoke the sleeping baby in Nick's arms. Not appreciating the rude awakening Johnna started squawking.

"Sorry." Jackie said to Nick who was now trying to calm the infant.

Nick just laughed at his wife.

"Houston, that's right, she is your sissy, way to go sweetie." Jackie said as she went over and wrapped her arms around him.

After Jackie had let him go, Houston then toddled back over to Nick and Johnna.

"Sissy." He said again as he pointed at the fussy infant.

"That's right, she's your sissy too." Nick said with a smile as he reached over and patted his son's head.

"Sissy." Houston said again, this time pointing at Nick himself.

Nick burst out laughing. "No bud, I'm your daddy, not your sissy."

Houston then went over to Jackie "Sissy." He said pointing at her.

"No Houden, mama, no sissy." Jasmine said with a shake of her head.

Nick and Jackie just looked at each other and laughed.

"Houston can you say mama?" Jackie asked.

Houston looked at her like she was nuts.

"Come on now, you have to say mama before you say dada, it's only fair because Jasmine said dada first." She said.

Nick laughed out loud.

Houston looked at Jackie and grinned, and then promptly walked over to Nick, pointed at him and said "dada."

Jackie's mouth literally flew open.

"That little stinker." She said.

"Haha." Nick said to Jackie with an ear to ear grin on his face.

"Oh stop gloating." She said.

Later that night all the kids were asleep.

"Are you still mad?" Nick asked with a grin as he wrapped his arm around Jackie.

"Yes." She said.

Nick laughed. "Now honey, don't be mad that our children like me better."

"That is not funny." she said sounding irritated.

He laughed. "Goodnight, love you." He said

"Love you too." She said.

Nick got a huge grin on his face and said "Apparently I love you more then the kids do."

"Oh shut up." She said as she playfully stuck her tongue out at him.

He chuckled.

"Goodnight." He said with a smile.

"Goodnight, and just so you know, if any of the kids wake up tonight, you are the one that's getting up with them. That is what the favorite parent of the household does." Jackie said with a smirk of her own.

Nick laughed "Ok, I will." He said.

He then rolled over and went to sleep.

"That'll teach him to gloat to me." Jackie thought to herself before she too fell asleep.
