Exactly as the title implies..what if Niles DID having feelings for Miss Fine and had left before they went any further? Ah, unrequited love...don't own the characters, never said i did.
Dear Sir-
I've been under your employ for years now and your friend even longer. Regrettably, due to recent revelations and pent up frustrations one must end in order for the other one to continue. Since I value your friendship more than any career, ever, it will have to be the latter.
Allow me to speak freely? Since we met Miss Fine 3 years ago I've hidden something from everyone, even myself. In order for you to be happy I have disguised my feelings for Fran, but now I've decided that I can't hold back any longer.
I can't fight how I feel any longer. I can't listen to her cry on my shoulder over you. I can't watch you go obliviously through the day as to how she feels about you. The bottom line is that I can't bear to watch her pine over a man who can't figure out what he wants while I secretly pine after her, any more.
It comes down to a question of loyalty, really. Do I go on and make myself unhappy? Do I tell her how I feel and lose your friendship?
No, the answer is simple. I must go, branch out and forget my part in this mess. Good-bye Max.
Sincerely,
NILES
P. S. Don't let her get away. I never would.
