Breathe
At least he hasn't got a teenage daughter or a baby to be born, Lexie thought, lying on a bunk inside the hospital's call-room. Her eyes resting on the ceiling over her head.
Jackson and Mark. Mark and Jackson. She couldn't love both. And in fact, she didn't because Lexie knew that this wasn't possible, especially because her heart was very clear about her feelings.
Her heartbeat quickened at the thought of the young doctor with tanned skin and green eyes, but only Sloan had the power to make these beats bolted, as if her heart would go out of her chest. But she was with Jackson, who wasn't going to hurt her again. Although, it was Lexie which was hurting herself every day that she spend away from Mark.
Little Grey hit the mattress of the bunk with her fist, sitting up abruptly. She ran her hands through her hair with rage, wiping a tear that had run down her cheek followed by many more.
Then the door opened. Lexie was sure it would be Avery, who had taken some free time between surgeries to go to see her. However, she was surprised when she saw Sloan standing at the door.
—I thought there was no one inside…—Mark apologized, without going all the way into the room.
—It's okay.
The plastic surgeon nodded and turned on his feet, ready to go. However, at the last second he turn around again, looking back towards Lexie.
—Have you been crying?—he asked.
—No…—she lied, denying the obvious—I mean, a patient died this morning and I'm in a bad mood—she added, wiping her cheeks with her hands to remove any traces of tears.
—Oh… I understand.
Mark stood without moving, and after a few seconds hesitation he approached to the bunk, taking a seat beside the young doctor. And then, without the slightest hesitation, he held Lexie in his arms.
The brunette immediately plunged her nose into Mark's neck, fitting against his body. As if the universe wanted to prove her that she had made a big mistake breaking up with the older surgeon.
After a few seconds, they gradually broke the hug. But then, as their bodies began to move away, their faces were dangerously close to each other. Their lips just a few inches apart, feeling each other breath on the skin. So close.
Then Lexie stood abruptly, walking away against the wall. She put her hand on her lips, feeling the tingle of the kiss that could have been but she had avoided in the last minute. Without saying a word, Little Grey ran out of the room.
—Lexie! Lexie wait!—Mark called. But she kept running through the halls without stopping.
As she walked away enough, she stopped, filling her lungs with air and then letting the air come out slowly. Deeply.
Because it was possible that she loved Mark Sloan with all the strength of her heart, but she had made a choice. And now it was Jackson the one who was in her life.
The end
