Her mind was a blank spot while her body was a beautifully crafted masterpiece of inked puzzle pieces; each line starkly contrasted and faintly shaded to slowly lead him along the hard curves of a living map of future crimes and down the taut planes of a body apparently honed for justice.

It was a disconcerting notion for so many reasons not the least of which was that Jane was actually fortunate to have been left alive after the abrupt spectacle of her appearance in the center of Times Square. If the team had actually followed protocol, the unopened bag hiding her intricately tatted body would simply have been destroyed in a portable detonation chamber after being contained via a lifeless robot and left them all with a lot more loss than just her narrative memories.

Unwontedly, Kurt pushed back the disturbing thought that he'd have missed out on something significantly more important than the opportunity to stop terrorist action from erupting today if his counterparts had done their job properly.

Instead, they'd taken a chance on her just like he had in the field today. A gamble that had paid off by saving his life as well as tipping the odds in their favor with the first hint of a flashback to her previous life.

It wasn't much but it was a start.

While Jane's mind was a near pristine canvas just waiting to be primed with a mixture of new experiences to reveal the old; his certainly wasn't. Unfortunately, there was no way to strip the layers of textured memory from revealing the colorful mistakes of his past if his instincts were proved right in why she'd been sent back to him.

For now, though; he'd have to wait patiently.

Something he was not well versed in or accustomed to given his penchant for taking charge of any given situation which is exactly why he'd been trained to head the bureau's critical response team.

Well, as Kurt held Jane's trembling body in his arms for reassurance; he was certainly having a response now. Just not one that a man like him should allow himself to feel or, especially, act upon, at least, until they both knew the truth.
