Why Bella Swan is a Fail
The Story of Rxe Rex's OC's vs. Bella Swan and Co.
Chapter One- Bella Swan is a Dumbshit in Distress
Bella Swan needs to be saved by a male every five minutes in the book. This is the sign of a weak woman. I would understand that Bella needed to be saved if the book took place in 1775. But come on, people, we're in 2011!
Bess Vs. Bella- Rev. War Babe Vs. Modern Day Mary-Sue
Bess di Cordero lives in 1772. Bella lives in 2007. Bess has only had to be saved once, and most of the time she can save herself. Bella has to be saved every five freaking minutes, and she can never save herself.
Shouldn't it be reversed? Shouldn't Bess have to be saved more because she lives in an era where strong women were frowned upon? Yes. Yes, she should. And Bess' love interest, Benjamin, tries to save her, and then Bess shoos him away.
While Bella Swan is being saved by every guy, and she likes it. She doesn't even try to save herself. She lets people do other things for her. When Bella is kidnapped in Eclipse and is held in Edward's house, she doesn't even try to make a run for it. While Bess, when kidnapped by Captain McIntyre, runs off the very next morning.
Bella is a fail.
"Somebody Save Me!" Bella Swan vs. Elle Benson
Oh, lordie, lordie, lordie. Every time Bella gets in trouble, she needs to get saved by someone else. Why? Why? Why? Elle Benson is a modern day girl, too, you know. But unlike Bella, Elle can defend herself.
No, I don't expect for a female character to be kick-ass and as strong as a man, but she still needs to defend herself. Elle's not some black belt in karate. Hell, she's 1 5'1, 95 pound girl! That's shorter and thinner than Bella! But yet, when Elle's about to get mugged, she fights back. She rumbles, which is what Bella should do. Like master Curtis Rx says 'Wanna rumble? Then let's rumble!'
When Bella is comfronted by Laurent, she's ready to die because of Edward. What, you aren't going to fight back? Are you gonna give up your life like it's a bag of chips? My gosh.
When Elle is mugged, she fights back. She loses, but at least she tries, and that's what makes a strong female character.
