Drabble – Deadline
Alexander was nibbling on his neck while his hands roam over his back and chest. Hephaestion looked at the stack of work in front of him and peeked over his shoulder to glance at his assailant.
"Alexander, you told me you needed these reports by tomorrow morning."
"I know." Said Alexander licking the bite mark he had just inflected on the tender neck.
"How am I supposed to concentrate and get that accomplished if you continue to molest my neck?"
Alexander laughed but didn't stop his assault, even picking up the pace by moving to his right earlobe.
"You'll get it done, you always do."
The earlobe slipped out of his mouth when the "attackee" moved from his grasp and turned to face his 'attacker'.
Alexander started to move forward but stopped when he saw the stance Hephaestion had taken.
"What, my love?"
"What do you think? And you know what you can do with your "my love' Alexander?"
"I don't understand, did I nibble on you to hard and hurt you?"
Hephaestion rolled his eyes and groaned.
"Tell me what is the matter so I can fix it?"
"You really have no idea, do you Alexander? Not a clue. Amazing."
Alexander's lower lip came out and looked at Hephaestion with big puppy eyes.
"Don't even go there with the lip and the eyes. You want it; all right you are going to get it. Tell me, Alexander, how many deadlines do you suppose you give me in a weeks time?"
The lip came back in so Alexander could speak. "Um, several I suppose."
"And how many need to be done immediately, if not sooner?"
"Um, most of them I suppose."
"And if I don't get them done in the time I am barely allotted, what do you do?"
"Give you more time?" Alexander said softly.
"You get mad and lose your temper."
"I do not. I never lose my temper with you."
"Aye, and what do you call what you did last week when I didn't make your impossible deadline?"
"Um, maybe I got a little upset."
"A little?"
"Um, more than a little I suppose."
"You're 'supposing' a lot."
"Well… I usually only give you the really important things because I know that I can depend on them getting done right and the way I want them done. You are a genius that way."
Hephaestion glared at Alexander. "Nice try."
"Hephaestion, do you want me to quit giving things to you? Is that what you want?"
Seeing he was going to lose this battle one way or the other, Hephaestion rubbed his forehead and sighed.
"I want you to…maybe you could just not wait so long…um, give me more time…"
Hephaestion turned back around and flopped down in his chair. Alexander started rubbing his tight shoulder muscles.
"I'm a pain in the neck, aren't I?"
Hephaestion had started to relax when he answered.
"You are certainly a pain sometimes, but the neck wasn't the area I had in mind."
