The merry-making echoes: sifting through the winds.

The heavy slapping of backs and hearty greetings drown the world.

The soft sounds of whispering winds withers.

Kari's gaze draws towards the soft peach of the sky. The clouds hurriedly staunch the dying sun's wounds too late. His companions flutter overhead, their great black wings fluttering freely. A softness seeps into his serious expression.

A giggle of a breeze nips teasingly at his ear. Its cold kiss creates a quiet shiver down his spine. He shakes the discomfort aside and revels in the peace of not being noticed.

The curious line of his gaze wanders. The teasing breeze returns to its origins. In the distance there arises laughter. The gleeful melody enraptures him. It urges him nearer.

The distant silhouette shakes with delight. The excitement exudes from her soul. A great smile flourishes on her face.

Kari stills.

Against the soothing shades of sky, the giggling melody born from her lips, the world is silenced, stopped in motion. He gazes deeply. The newly cut wounds bleed deep. Their crimson caresses burrowing into his secretive heart. He finds himself smiling too.

No voice, but hers, steals his consideration.

No heart, but his, so wounded thrives.

Author's Note: I really enjoyed writing this. I had this planned for a few days. Someone wanted to see more of my work. I thought that it was a simple request to fulfil so this idea was born. He falls in love. This is vastly different from my other one shot for this fandom. This time he understands, but, I suppose, at the same time, he doesn't. It's all happened so fast!

I'm going to be shameless though. I know I shouldn't, but I am. This is a little bit of self-promotion, but I am a published author. My book was really bad though. I started it when I was twelve and I got so excited at the prospect that I rushed it and it's terrible. I'm working on another (fifty thousand or so) manuscript, Affection. They're all little one shots like this. So, if you don't mind, could you tell me if you like this writing style or not? Thank you.

Thank you for reading. I hope that you have enjoyed this. I apologise if I have dissatisfied you.
