He is the king of sadness, sitting upon a throne of fear. His people dare not rise against him, for they know the price. Their dear king will behead anyone who dare challenge him.
She is the queen of compassion, sitting upon a throne of love. Her people are happy, dancing in the streets. Their dear queen is light in an everlasting darkness.
When the king meets the queen, the people fear a war. The queen is a challenge and the king is impossible. But the only war that comes is one of passion and feelings, both king and queen falling into each other.
He has done terrible things, killed hundreds of people. But he is broken in a way the queen understands. The queen wishes to be the one to heal him.
She shares her radiant light with him until she sees his darkness begin to fade. He opens himself up to her gently, telling tales of his father. The once king was far crueler than his successor, burning villages as he saw fit. The new king didn't wish to be like him, but felt he had no choice. The old king had broken him, and the new king felt he'd never be healed.
The queen felt herself taking in his darkness and making it light. She showed him how to forgive, to trust, to love. And the beautiful queen gave him her heart in return.
"My lady, do me the honor of marrying me."
She didn't answer him for a month, creating a challenge she knew he couldn't resist. In that month, the king was the most caring and gentle man she'd ever met. In the moonlight ballroom of her 18th birthday, she gave her answer.
"Yes."
The kingdoms rejoiced. They were now kingdoms united, far stronger with each other. Life thrived and everyone welcomed the new prince and princess when they arrived.
Echoes from all around the kingdom whispered, "All hail King Klaus and Queen Caroline."
