Title: Curiosity
Rating: K+
Summary: Korra goes to the only person she knows that can answer her questions about her past self.
A/N: I've had this idea for a while. It finally worked itself out and made it onto paper. Hints of Kataang, and cute Gaang. Enjoy.
"Tenzin?"
Tenzin turns around, and finds Korra standing in the doorway. He sets down the paper he's reading and turns to face her, gesturing that she can take a seat.
"What is it, Korra?" he says as she sits on the edge of the seat in front of him. She scrunches up her face.
"What was your father like?"
Tenzin sits back in the chair, as that wasn't what he was expecting. He didn't have a lot of people asking him questions about his father, mainly because everyone knew the stories and had made up their own minds. That, and Tenzin wasn't much into answering their questions.
"What do you mean, Korra?" he responds, and she huffs impatiently.
"Well, I don't know much about him. I was wondering what he's like. I am his reincarnation," she points out, and he nods.
"My father… he was a kindhearted man. Extremely spiritual and focused. However, at the same time, he always enjoyed a good laugh. He and Uncle Sokka liked to play pranks on my mother, constantly," his eyes soften as he thinks back, and Korra sits forward in her seat.
"I remember once, she was baking for Kya's birthday. Uncle and father were in the yard, playing with Bumi and I, when they suddenly looked at each other and disappeared inside. The next thing I know, I hear mother scream and they come running out, laughing and rolling around on the grass. Mother walks out of the house with flour in her hair and on her shirt," Tenzin laughs, "she was mad at them for the rest of the day."
"They sound fun," Korra says softly, and Tenzin nods.
"They were very close, the six of them."
"You're including Master Toph, Zuko, and Suki?" she asks, and he nods.
"They were constantly together. Their travels around the world made them a very close group of friends. I think they considered each other family, and they acted it," he says warmly, and Korra smiles at him. He seems relaxed, and calm as he speaks of his family. She finds it comforting.
"I bet that was fun," she says, and he laughs.
"They were extremely affectionate. They'd constantly have group hugs and laugh. I guess hugging was something they did a lot on their travels. My parents, though, hugged the most," he finishes, and she perks up.
"You don't seem very affectionate," she teases him, and he gives her a stern look.
"My parents had a very close relationship. From what Uncle told me, they hugged more often than not. It was their 'thing', as he put it. They were also very affectionate towards us children, but not as much as each other. Bumi and I made fun of them constantly when we were young," he smiles then, and looks at her.
"What exactly did you want to know, again?" he asks, and she shakes her head.
"I don't know. I was just curious about Avatar Aang, and your family," she says with a shrug, and he nods.
"Well, that's all fine," he says, about to turn around, but she reaches forward.
"What were their travels like?" she blurts out, and he looks at her.
"Their travels?"
"You know, when they were riding on Appa around the world, running from the Fire Nation," she explains, and he thinks for a moment.
"Well, my father loved to tell me of his… well, in Uncle's words, 'mental breakdown', before the Eclipse…."
