Artemis stood there wondering. Who could it be from? She had already gotten her gifts from everyone. A lovely scarf from M'gann, a new jacket from Zee, a really good book from Kaldur, a backup bow and arrows kit from Robin, and a rock from Conner. Yet there it sat, under the tree in the cave living room wrapped neatly with a green bow on top. She went up to the small box and took it to the couch and read the tag:
To: Artemis
I know you probably never had the best Christmas, if any, so I wanted to make this a special one.
~ Wally
He was right, as a child her father told her straight to her face, "Santa doesn't exist and you don't need to be spoiled with a gift like other little brats". He said to his 4 year old girl when she asked if they were going to have Christmas. From then on it was always the same, she never mentioned Christmas, and she spent it training her ass off.
Artemis sat there in shock, why was he being so nice to her? She slowly unwrapped the tiny gift, taking the bow off and opening the box. Inside was the most gorgeous gift, a silver bracelet with green pendants of bows and arrows. There was one pendant that caught her eye though. It had words on it in gold lettering.
'Goddess of Congeniality'
She stared intently at it, then put the bracelet on and went in search of Wally. She found him in his room doing some homework. She knocked on the door.
"It's open" Wally said.
She opened the door and walked in. Seeing it was her Wally got up.
"Um, hey Artemis what's up?"
She took a few steps towards him and said:
"I realized I never gave you a Christmas present"
She then did something Wally never would've thought would ever happen. She kissed him. It was a short kiss, maybe 2 seconds, but it was meaningful. She then said softly:
"Merry Christmas Wally, thank you for the bracelet, its beautiful"
She turned to leave, Wally still in shock finally recovered just in time as she reached the door. He strode towards her and stopped her by grabbing her and pulling her into a long kiss. Pulling apart he looked into the grey eyes of the girl he was hopelessly in love with and then whispered:
"Not as beautiful as you are babe"
