It was November 15. The time: 8:00 PM. And SGF was ready for action. He clicked the thing he probably clicks to make the stream start and said boldly, "Hello there everyone, and welcome to the Saturday stream. That thing we do every Saturday." He paused, and then added, "don't you think it's not."
"Tonight we're going back to everyone's favorite interactive multimedia set-top box, the CD-I. We've got something special here from the other pile." Rustling sounds could be heard across the Internet. "I've never heard this game came out, but it seems they actually made a Hotel Mario 2." All over the chat, Chat remarked that they also never heard of it. "It's strange, this disc looks almost (SGF deep voice) home-made, (SGF returns to normal voice) but let's see if it works."
The cloudscape on the CD-I faded to sunset as the disc drive opened, and then returned to blue as the disc spun up. As the game began, it played the same cutscene from the beginning of the original Hotel Mario. "That's strange. Let's start playing and see if it's any different." So SGF began the game, and it looked very similar – elevators going up and down, doors opening and closing. But suddenly, as SGF went to enter the elevator on the lowest floor, it switched directions and pointed down.
Before SGF could react, Mario entered the elevator as Chat exploded into confusion. The screen shifted downward and Mario found himself in the hotel's basement. But this was no normal basement. There were chains on the walls, holding up spooky skeletons! And there was blood EVERYWHERE. (SGF pretend scared voice) "Oh no! It's a spooky basement!" But little did SGF know that his mock fear was about to turn real: The expensive CD-I, so terrified of what it had processed, broke down, never to boot again. As the screen went dark, the stream crashed, sending Chat into chaos. After a few minutes, the stream page refreshed, but something insidious had changed: supergreatfriend dot moe was no more – the site had redirected to supergreatfriend dot boo.
11-15 Update: Oh God the story nearly came true.
