One Moment

"Bye Becca, see you in the morning!" Sam called to his girlfriend as they parted ways not far from Bec's old primary school. She smiled and waved back, blowing a kiss.

Sam grinned and turned away. That was when he heard a scuffle from behind him, a yell and a shrill scream followed by a dull thunk of someone hitting the floor and rapid footsteps.

Sam spun round and what he saw nearly made his heart stop.

Becca was lying in the mouth of the alley clutching her side with blood pouring rapidly from her side.

Sam sprinted over to Becca's side, crouching down beside her. In the distant there was a young man with a hoodie on, sprinting down the road. However Sam's eyes were fixed on his girlfriend lying bleeding on the floor.

He dialed 999 but he wasn't sure Becca's could make it. He took her hand, laying her gently on the floor.

"Don't you give up on me!" he begged, tears coming thick and fast,

Becca's only response was a terrible, racking cough,

"You can't die! Who else would I have to turn too?" It was a sad statement but true. Sam had given up a lot in his quest for Becca. His friends, his family. A lot. And if she died it would be very hypocritical of him to go waltzing back to them.

The problem was he wasn't sure if she would bother fighting the wound at that moment. She had had a huge run in with her parents a few days ago and she had been emotionally tetchy ever since.

"Sam..." she whispered, "It isn't any good..."

"Don't speak that way!" Sam cried,

"Sorry..." she whispered and closed her eyes for good,

Sam bowed his head and let his tears fall freely. He honestly didn't have much of a reason to live anymore. That girl, the one who he held now, even in death, was his whole life. Yes he was young but Becca had been his everything, the one person he woke up to see in the morning, the person who kept him on his toes and who he loved truly and completely. And now, in the space of one moment, she had been torn form him.

As the ambulance arrived Sam was struck by the reality of the situation he found himself in. His mentality was simple: live life in the moment. Because you never know how long you've got on the Earth. And Becca wouldn't want him to despair. He had to go out there and earn his place amongst people. Yes he had suffered hurt, loss and pain. But they are the price he paid for the times in life he enjoyed. And he had to fight for it. And never quit.

A/N:

Yeah... it's short but that isn't the point. The meaning is quite plain.
