SquirrelXBramble is my favorite Warriors couple and I just adore those two together, so I wrote this little one-shot about their early relationship through the eyes of Sandstorm. It's a bit short, but that's to be expected after just thirty minutes of writing it. I hope you like and don't forget to review!
P.S. I will take suggestions on pairings to write about and I will write most pairings, so if you have a request you can review the story or just PM me!
I never did understand why Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw held such animosity for one another. The most I had ever gotten out of my scatterbrained daughter was some story about a hare and a Twoleg, which doesn't make much sense to me even after her fourth attempt at explaining it to me. It was almost silly how those two seemed to hate each other.
Goldenflower thought it was amusing how often her son and my daughter fought. Firestar found it troubling. After all, how can you work together for your Clan's sake without falling into an all-out brawl in the middle of camp? For StarClan's sake, they always manage to scare away all of the prey from the camp to Fourtrees when they're on patrol!
And then they disappeared together and that was an even sillier notion than their ridiculous little spats. Before we found out about the other four missing cats, Mousefur and Cloudtail were placing bets on whether or not they ran away to become mates!
I knew that wasn't the reason why they'd ran away, not only because it was a stupid idea to even think of, but because Graystripe had told me about what Firestar had told them. Maybe they'd just felt too pressured by him and had just left for a little while. It was after all something characteristic of what Squirrelpaw would do. However, Brambleclaw was sensible and was too loyal to just up and leave without a very good reason for doing so. It had to have been the prophecy Firestar's been obsessed with that had compelled them to leave.
All I knew was that my daughter was gone and I had to trust that Brambleclaw would bring her home safely. There was no use in shedding grief over something I might not need to be grieving about.
The next time I saw Squirrelpaw, she was different. Much different from the stubborn, disrespectful, mouse-brain that had left. From her first day in camp, I could tell that their journey had changed. Aside from the shock of being told we had to leave the forest, I was surprised to find that Squirrelpaw acted so familiarly with Brambleclaw. It seemed that the journey had mended the kink in their relationship.
"And maybe a little more," Goldenflower chuckled as she watched Squirrelpaw pad over to where Brambleclaw was eating a finishing off a measly mouse, a tiny finch clasped in her jaws.
"Are you sure?" I meowed doubtfully before Squirrelpaw set the finch down at her paws in front of Brambleclaw and nudged it towards him, almost as if she were trying to get him to eat it.
Brambleclaw shook his head and pushed the finch back to her with his paw. He flicked his tail over her ears as he said something. He brushed his muzzle against her shoulder almost affectionately and pushed by Squirrelpaw, leaving her to stay after him with a wondering look in her eyes.
"I told you," Goldenflower gloated lightly, looking triumphant and a little giddy.
I couldn't help but feel a bit excited myself as I glanced at the pale ginger tabby she-cat beside me. "How long do you think until they both admit it?"
