A/N: I've never written an anime-inspired poem before; count this as my first! It's kind of a drabble on Akari's thoughts about her and Takaki's relationship and history after the events in the movie. When I first watched it, the characters' communication skills really irked me. Why couldn't they just call each other?

Then I thought: Well, I guess sometimes when you're too in love with someone you could become excessively afraid of rejection. That was Takaki's case, I believe...and with the way he reacted, Akari had no choice but to move on to others. I imagine that Takaki eventually got together with someone else after he consciously admitted that he and Akari would never work out. I was curious at the end, however, about Akari's point of view, which the movie didn't show as much of. I decided to step in her shoes briefly, and this happened.

It's not my best poetry, but I'm happy with how this turned out. I still tear up when I think about the beautiful plot, characterization, and graphics in Five Centimeters Per Second.

Disclaimer: I obviously do not own Five Centimeters Per Second. It's called fanfiction for a reason! Or fanpoetry. Whatever floats your boat!

For you, a distant star

There was a time so long ago
I wanted to pluck you out
Of a never-ending skyline road,
And watch all your pretty bits
Paint my eyes a merry cloud.

I've since then been harshly dealt
By rigid hands that joker card
And never had I so painful felt
A helpless flood unlevied
That washed away your dreaming art.

I want to travel back again,
To hear your thoughts and whispers
Which gave me life in pouring rain
That now leaves my lips
Every time I see you kiss her.

Maybe if you ask me why
I had so hastily left
When all we had to do was fly
I have no answer
Just thought it was for the best.

There's something you should know, however:
That in this universe of light
Through all the galaxies that I remember
Glowing starry halos—
You're the one who shined most bright.

Take care, beloved, you've done me kind,
You were everything and more
And I'm sorry that it wasn't our time—
But I'll always keep your smile
Packed and ready by the door.

Savannah Scott

A/N: Savannah Scott is an alias I use when I write poetry. 'Savannah' is the name of the street I lived on for the years that I've written the most work, and 'Scott' is the maiden name of a friend who got me into writing. Well, technically I was into writing already, but she was the one who gave me the confidence to really go after it without bounds. (Thank you very much...you know who you are, if you're reading this!)
