In my eyes…
It was the most ridiculous thing I ever had to do. Why me? Why did they need my help – an Uchiha – to do their dirty work?
What was so special about guarding a mansion? Just because it belonged to the Hyugas?
I still can't believe it…and the worst thing was that I had to guard it with the shy Hyuga girl, Hinata!
Couldn't they guard it themselves?
And even if they needed the whole Hyuga clan to be present in the country of mist as back-up, why did they leave me together with her behind in this mansion, where for almost 4 hours nothing has stirred so far?
"I-I heard something," the shy girl stuttered again.
Her stuttering was getting on my nerves.
"I told you already that it's just the wind," I said angrily for the 10th time, my voice becoming louder each successive reply.
"B-but what if –"
"You have Byakugan, right? Just look," I almost yelled at her, causing her to flinch.
"I-I'm…s-sorry," she said meekly.
I glanced at her.
"Stop apologizing," I replied, still annoyed.
"O-ok," she said before scanning the mansion with her Byakugan.
She seriously needed a backbone! And she was supposed to be an heiress!?
I almost laughed at that thought but was held back when I heard her approaching the window. I followed and wondered what was so interesting about her backyard.
I looked but I didn't see what she saw.
"I'll take care of it," I heard her murmur and watched her leave the room.
I wanted to follow her…but her serious face held me back. Her eyes were hard and they told me to stay away from her.
And for one split second I found interest in those eyes.
I returned to watching the window for possible threats but I haven't spotted anything –not even with my Sharingan.
I just saw dark clouds, rain, and lightning.
I clenched my teeth. I couldn't believe it!
I was starting to feel jealous towards that shy girl!
What did her Byakugan see what my Sharingan couldn't?
But what really worried me was that I didn't know if she really found someone. Maybe she was outnumbered, maybe she was already defeated.
I had to help her…it was my mission.
But her shout stopped me.
Her scream rang in my ears, sending a shock through my body.
And after that…nothing.
What happened?
She lost?
Did she eventually even get killed?
My heart skipped a beat at that thought.
Wait…did I care about her?
No…I just cared about the mission…but not for her.
But why do I feel like a lightning had just struck me?
I couldn't take it anymore and was about to stand up when she magically entered the dark room.
She had some minor wounds but otherwise was unharmed…and strangely she was dry as a bone.
She sat beside me and smiled at me, causing the lightning to strike once again.
"How many?" I asked, hoping that the feeling will fade.
"10."
My eyes glanced at the figure that was watching the window.
"She managed to defeat 10 in… 2 minutes?"
"How did you find them? Why couldn't I?" I asked, trying to suppress my anger.
"My Byakugan…has almost 360 degree field of vision."
The shock in my body didn't fade.
So the enemy…was actually behind me?
She wasn't as weak as I thought her to be…and strangely, I was pleased.
In my eyes…
I heard her gasp again.
"What happened?"
"Back-up," she replied.
"How many?"
There was a short silence before she answered.
"30."
I watched her. She couldn't possibly take 30 more people. She would die.
And that's when a thought struck me.
The mission wasn't to protect the mansion…but to protect the heiress!
And that's why she was the only one left behind…so that the few who returned would be able to be lead…with her as the heiress.
I waited for her decision.
She smiled.
"I need your help, Sasuke," she said and looked at me with those hard eyes again.
Lightning illuminated the room for a second and revealed her Byakugan to me.
I smiled and activated my Sharingan.
"Fine."
