The morning light danced around the room of the apartment, exposing the two girls sitting across from one another, sad silence filling the small kitchen. "We need to keep moving. I wish we didn't have to leave, I heard the Land of Fire isn't very fun. Yugegakure has been nice." The taller of the two, Shizuka (Shizu for short), said. "Maybe we should think of becoming a ninja and residing in one of these towns…" Said the younger, Fumiko. Shizu had long, dark hair and matching eyes. Her companion had light honey-colored hair and bright amber eyes, sporting freckles along the bridge of her nose. "As if we could be ninjas. We're just two traveling children, only 12 and 10, not fighting machines. Besides, who wants to kill other people for a living?!" Shizu snapped back at the younger girl. Fumiko sighed. "It's just that, you know, we never do anything. We don't even belong to a village." The dark haired girl frowned. "We don't have much of a choice, Fumi-chan."

Soon the morning sun was fading and the two travelers were ready to set off. Shizu grabbed Fumiko's hand as they walked down the streets of the Hot Water village. They spotted multiple people as they walked, and bought what little food they could afford. Fumi had earned some extra money, which she insisted she would use to buy something from the sweets store. Sadly, there was no sweet store in the village. A villager spotted them and steered his cart towards them. "Oi! You young ladies heading to Konoha?" The girls looked up. The man had yellowy-orange hair and pink skin. Fumiko whispered to Shizu, "Should we trust him?" Shizu debated this for a second before nodding to the man. "Yes, thank you. "Climb aboard!"

Their trip was progressing well, they had gone about a quarter of the way before dusk came. The spiky-haired man turned around and smiled at the girls. "I'm Tokuei Uzumaki, I actually come from Konoha." He said, introducing himself. Shizu nodded. "I'm Shizuka, and this is Fumiko. We are travelers who have been traveling enough to forget our origins." The man gave a chuckle at the last part. "Well, Shizuka-san, we'll have to make camp here for the night." Tokuei says. "Be on alert, rogue ninjas often pass through here." He added, unrolling multiple blankets from his stash. Shizu turned to look at Fumi. "I'm sorry about what I said earlier, but being a ninja would be extremely difficult. We're best off just traveling." The girl said. "I know." Fumiko said with a deep sigh.

Shizu turned over on the blanket she was laying on, thinking. If only we could stay somewhere. If only I was strong enough to protect Fumi. Why can't I remember where I came from? These questions echoed throughout her, but one thing stood out, Where do we belong? As she thought of this, the sky became hazy and the girl drifted off into sleep.

A/n: My first story! Sorry its short and not very good, I need a little bit of practice.
