Optimus stared up at the once vibrant city of Iacon and vented. There was no light now. No beauty. Megatron's raids had taken care of that all too soon. The leader of the Autobots paused however as he felt a gentle servo on his shoulder plating.
"Orion, why are you still up? You should be resting," a feminine voice faux scolded.
Optimus turned around and saw his beloved sparkmate: Elita One. Her optics looked so vibrant, so full of hope, even in the midst of all this destruction.
"Something is troubling you?"
Optimus vented and nodded his helm slowly. "I cannot help but think this is all my fault, Ariel. Perhaps if the Council had chosen another-"
"Now, you stop right there," her forehelm furrowed slightly. "The Council chose you for I reason. This is not your fault; It's Megatron's. You know that."
"But if I could have just-" Optimus stared at Elita as turbulent emotions ran rampant across his facial plating, emotions that he would only allow her to see. The Autobots needed a strong leader and so such displays were out of the question for the Prime. After all, if they saw that their leader was afraid or sorrowful, it would lower moral for they had come to see Optimus as a symbol of hope. If that symbol was shattered or faith in him was shaken, the war was as good as over for the Autobots.
"Hey," Elita One held his facial plating in her servos. "It's all right. You did all that you could. The important thing is that we are alive. Megatron will pay for his crimes, I know he will."
"And how can you be sure?"
"Call it a femme's foresight," Elita smiled before kissing Optimus. The pair quickly broke apart however as one of Optimus' highest ranking officers, Prowl, interrupted them.
"Optimus, it's Decepticons. Two klicks away from us and moving fast."
Optimus straightened, all signs of weakness leaving his frame. "Tell the others to roll out. I shall be with you all shortly."
When Prowl left, Optimus turned to Elita. "I shall be back soon."
"I know," she smiled. "You always are."
Ion cannons echoed through the night as the battle continued to rage between the opposite factions. Many soldiers from both sides had already been offlined in battle but only one thing was on Optimus' processor at that moment: keeping Elita safe. He ran back to the compound as Prowl and Ironhide provided cover fire.
Elita stared at her sparkmate, slightly worried about what was to happen next. "Orion, what is going on?"
"The Decepticons are about to take this compound and so you and the other femmes need to head to safety," he said urgently.
"But-"
"Please, Elita. You need to leave," he lowered his voice, "I could not bear to live with myself if you were offlined. Please. Just go."
Elita's stubbornness began to fade as the gravity of his words hit her. "All right. I'll go."
Elita activated her weapon systems as she ushered Moonracer and Flareup into an underground safe house away from the battle field. She had tried to convince Firestar and Chromia to leave with them but they adamantly refused, for their sparkmates Inferno and Ironhide were still on the battlefield.
"You will come back for me? Won't you?" she asked softly.
"I will come back for you, Ariel. This I promise you." His lip components met hers for one final kiss before he closed the door to the safe house.
"You always do. . . dearest Orion," she whispered in the darkness.
A/N: I hope all of you liked this little one-shot that I made for my dear friend: blondie-moyashi. This also ties into the continuity of my Transformers story a little bit so. . . look forward to that. xD
Well, make sure you review and God bless all of you!
