A/N: For my dear Liza.
He's sat in Diagon Alley waiting for Lily to arrive. The letter he sent to her a week ago or more is playing on his mind.
Dear Lily,
Hey, this is James. I know I'm probably the last person you want to hear from, but I couldn't resist. So, how are you? How's your summer going? Looking forward to starting Sixth year? Look, what I'm really writing for is to apologise about my actions last month. I should have left Snape alone and I really am sorry that I seemingly destroyed your friendship with him. I never dreamed in a million years that he would or could call you something like that! I can't even begin to fathom how exactly you must be feeling at the moment. I am willing to do penitence when we return to the Castle if I have to. I mean it, Lily - I'll. Do Whatever. It. Takes.
Look,I'm going to be in Diagon Alley during the second week of August to get the stuff on my book list. What do you say we meet up? If you turn up at Florean Fortesque's at 2pm on the 18th, I'll be waiting with a Peppermint choc chip sundae. If you don't, then I'll know that I'm not forgiven. But I truly am sorry Lily.
Best,
James
He never did get a reply. So he's sat waiting in hope that she'll arrive and soon. He nervously glances at his watch, it's 1.55 PM. He hears heels clicking behind him and he whips round, only to find Marlene stood there.
"She's not coming, is she?" James asks in a resigned voice.
"No James I'm afraid she's not," answers Marlene.
James sighs. He stands up and begins to move. Marlene shouts for him to stop. He stops and she hands him a piece of parchment. Lily said to give you this. Marlene hands it to him and walks away.
James slowly unfolds the note and reads.
James,
Don't worry about it, I knew it was coming just from the company he was keeping these days. I'm fine, I have Marls, Alice, Hestia, and Mary; so that's enough. Thank you for being so sweet, but really it's fine James. Enjoy your summer.
Lily.
James feels like someone has just physically gutted him there on the spot, no matter what he tries, he just cannot seem to catch a break where Lily Evans is concerned. Maybe he should give up? But he can't. He's totally captivated by his Lily-Rose.
