He watched her as she slept, alone for the first time in what seemed like forever to him. She was unconscious throughout the entire extraction process and was sleeping ever since then. Looking at her silently, Daniel was happy to see that. After these three years in which she was trapped inside her own body, unable to do anything, she deserved to be in control of herself again. It reminded him of Skaara and all that he's been hoping to see in Sha're.

She was calm as she slept, just as he'd remembered her from the time they used to go out. He never really did deserve her; but she was still there, all the time. He remembered those times, those somewhat simpler times – going on a date with Sarah and working in the lab. His professor died long ago, and his and Sarah's lives changed dramatically. Yet in a way, as he watched her sleeping, he found himself wondering whether he had gone back in time.

And then she woke up, and he found himself hugging her like he hasn't done in thousands of years.

"I'm so sorry," She whispered, holding on to him tightly. "I'm sorry."

"It wasn't you," his voice was quiet. He lowered his head, his lips almost touching the skin of her neck. The feeling of her safe and sound in his arms made him feel happier than he's been in a while. He wasn't in love with her, not anymore, or at least so he thought, but he loved knowing that she was once again safe. "It wasn't your fault. It wasn't."

"I couldn't stop him." He'd missed hearing her speaking. Every time he ran into Osiris, all he could think about was her. Her voice, her face, her hair. How everything was so much like her, and yet, so much unlike her. He missed her, the essence of who she was. The one thing that the Goa'uld managed to take from him over and over again. "I tried, but I couldn't."

"I know. It's okay." He froze for a moment as he realized she started crying. He hesitated for a moment before hugging her even more tightly. "It's okay."

"Did I hurt you?" She whispered.

He didn't even hesitate. "No. I'm fine."

"I know you were in pain. I could see that."

He didn't pull back, even though he wanted to, so he could look into her eyes. Instead, he found himself gently kissing her neck. "It's alright," He whispered into her ear. "I'm fine. You're fine. You didn't do any of this – it was Osiris. You never once hurt me."

"Daniel…"

"It's okay," He whispered again.

"It was scary. It was so scary and I couldn't do anything. All that pain and hunger for power. All these games. All that death."

Remembering the bit he'd heard from both Sha're and Skaara, Daniel tried to understand what she was going through. It seemed horrible. The memories of the Goa'uld were filled with the most evil things a living being could ever do – so evil that a human being could barely handle them all. He remembered it from his own dream, three years earlier.

"You're safe now. Just try to forget it."

She took a deep breath, still hugging him tightly. They remained there silently for a long moment, simply hugging – Daniel trying to support her and calm her down and Sarah holding on to the only person she knew that could help her deal with it. She was scared, terrified, even, but when he held her like that, she could feel her muscles slowly relaxing. She really was safe.

"Now what?" She whispered eventually.

"Now we move on." He whispered back, again gently kissing her neck. She closed her eyes and rested her head against his shoulder, finally allowing herself to relax and move on.
