He wasn't supposed to see Miley climb out of the window and make her way to a party in the dead of the night. He wasn't supposed to know that the part was a frat party, which would have drunken people looking to 'get some'. He wasn't supposed to follow her and make sure she was safe.

" Get away from her you creep, Miley, are you okay?"

"No…Oliver…I think…I'm going t-"

" It's okay Miley, I am here don't worry."

He wasn't supposed to hold her hair back as she vomited her stomach's contents into a toilet bowl. But he did. Because that was what good friends were supposed (had) to do. So Oliver would be the good friend and save her from pawing hands and greedy fingers, because someone had to.

He wasn't supposed to see Jackson crying in the confines of bathrooms. He wasn't supposed to see Jackson slice gashes across his wrist and watch the red liquid ooze from it. He wasn't supposed to see Jackson overdose on pills and beg for oblivion to come take him away.

"Jackson? Jackson, come on you've got stay awake…"

"Your family needs you…"

He wasn't supposed to take Jackson to the hospital and try to save him. But he did. Because underneath it all, Jackson was still a human being who just needed (wanted) someone to care about him. So Oliver would be the person who would show that tiny ounce of concern and show Jackson that someone cared, because someone had to.

He wasn't supposed to see Mr. Stewart drowning his sorrows on empty stretches of beaches. He wasn't supposed to see him weeping on his wife's photograph on the kitchen table. He wasn't supposed to save him from the oncoming traffic on the freeway. He wasn't supposed to check him into rehab.

"Mr. Stewart…you know you have to go"

"Don't let them know"

"Ï wont. It's safe with me"

He wasn't supposed to send him letters of encouragement. But he did. Because he did want alcoholism to take (steal) away another life. So Oliver would be the hero for just once and try to make sure that at least some family did not lose their Dad, because someone had to.

//

He wasn't supposed to see his mother see his mother cry herself to sleep every night. He wasn't supposed to hold her and offer her words of comfort. He wasn't supposed to hear the nightly fights emanating from his parents bedrooms.

"It's okay mom."

"I'm there, I'll always be there"

"I love you mom"

He wasn't supposed to hold her shaking hands as she signed the divorce papers. But he did. Because he knew that his mother was trying to hold on to a failing (failed) marriage just for his sake. So Oliver would the good son and stick up for his mother against his alcoholic father, because someone had to.

He wasn't supposed to be weak. He wasn't supposed to vent all his suppressed emotions. He wasn't supposed to go to Lilly and sob in her warm embrace.

" I can't do this anymore Lilly, I can't be strong"

"You don't have to be Oliver, you'll always have me to lean on"

"I love you Lilly"

" I love you too, Oliver. Always"

He wasn't supposed to break down. But he did. Because Oliver was only human and could only be so strong. Like everyone else he needed a shoulder to cry on. He needed someone to tell him it would all be okay. He needed someone to care for him. He needed to be saved too, from himself sometimes. He needed someone to hold his hand. He needed someone to tell him that they loved him.

He needed (and wanted so much more) Lilly. So Oliver would admit that he was human too, that he needed Lilly to save him and love him, because someone had to.

I not feeling very happy right now. Oh well, please leave me a review with your thoughts on it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who thinks it's weird.

And I don't own HM.
