Ginny was extremely scared.
Lily was going to start her first year of Hogwarts tomorrow, and Ginny didn't want to let her go. It had happened before as well, at the time of James and Albus' first years.
Ginny would spend the whole year waiting for a letter that she hoped would never come.
It was completely irrational of her, but the heart had its reasons.
She felt a hand rest on her shoulder and turned around to see Harry. Of course he would notice, he noticed every year.
But this time, her fear had increased ten folds.
It was, after all, her only daughter.
"It's going to be fine, Gin. She's going to be fine."
"I know Harry. I knew that with all of them. It's completely irrational of me but I can't help it. Not this time."
"Then tell me. What's so different about this time?"
"She's my only daughter."
Harry froze for a moment.
"She my only daughter too, Ginny."
Ginny looked up and met his green eyes. He understood what she was feeling. She was their only daughter.
Every time any of her kids went to Hogwarts for the first time, she felt this undeniable fear that something would happen to them. Flashes of her own disastrous first year would recur in front of her eyes, and she would keep waiting for a letter telling them that something had gone wrong, while hoping all the time that it would not come.
She was a mess.
And this time, it was even worse because Lily was her only daughter. Ginny saw herself in Lily, the way the little girl ran behind her brothers asking what Hogwarts was like, or the way she pouted at being called the baby.
Lilly Luna Potter was a force to be reckoned with, even at this tender age.
But Ginny hoped her daughter's similarities with her would end here. She did not want her daughter to end up like her.
She did not want her to be forced to grow up so soon.
She wanted her to have a fun-filled childhood.
She wanted her to come back and narrate all the incidents of her amazing first year, and not complain about memory loss and blackouts.
"Don't worry too much Ginny. History is not going to repeat itself. He, Voldemort, is gone. Everyone is safe. There is nothing that can harm Lily at Hogwarts. If you still want, I will tell Neville to keep an eye on her."
Ginny shook her. She had decided. She would not let a stupid fear keep her from enjoying her daughter's first year.
She kissed Harry softly, and they both joined the kids in their preparations.
And as Ginny helped Lily choose what clothes she should take, she told herself that nothing would go wrong.
Lily Luna Potter would not end up like Ginevra Weasley did.
