When the hour is upon us
And our beauty surely gone
No you will not be forgotten
And you will not be alone
No you will not be alone
He stood in his house, his old house, the one he had shared with his family. He was dressing for an event that he was dreading from the moment he held her for the last time. Black suit, white shirt, dark red tie, blood red; he ripped the tie from his neck. How was he going to do this? There wasn't an answer.
And when the day has all but ended
And our echo starts to fade
No you will not be alone then
And you will not be afraid
No you will not be afraid
He finally picked a tie, dark grey almost black; it matched his mood, the clouds over head, the puddles on the street below. His son stood in the doorway and watched, in a somber mood himself. "Daddy, I can't fix my tie, and I want to look like you."
Hotch dropped to his knees in front of his son and tied the little man's tie, expertly knotting the material in seconds.
He hugged Jack tightly to his chest, as tears ran down his cheeks, rapidly being replaced with a fresh stream until he was weeping silent sobs that shook his body and frightened his son. Hotch felt Jack stiffen and he released his grip on him. Struggling to clear his thoughts he spoke softly, "Don't be afraid, buddy. I love you."
Jack looked at him, swiped at his own tears, "I want to see mommy, so bad. Please Daddy!"
Hotch's lip quivered, "Me too…me too."
When the fog has finally lifted
From my cold and tired brow
No I will not leave you crying
And I will not let you down
No I will not let you down
I will not let you down
Jack ran from the room and Hotch buried his face in his hands, leaning on his bed, weeping. He didn't know how long he stayed like that before a hand was on his shoulder. He looked up to find Rossi standing by his side.
"It's time, if you are ready."
Hotch stood, a broken and bitter man. He desperately needed to pull himself together for Jack's sake. He wiped his face with a tissue. He breathed a haggard shaky breath, thinking of the bravery she had shown in the face of death, he pulled his shoulders back, standing tall, drawing on the last bit of strength he had.
Out in the living room the rest of his team waited. Jack stood with JJ. She had her hands draped around his shoulders as she stood behind him. The same way he had seen Haley do countless times before. Jack had stopped crying and looked at the floor.
He crossed the room and took Jack's hand, leading him to the black cars waiting outside of the house.
Now comes the night
Feel it fading away
And the soul underneath
Is it all that remains
So just slide over here
Leave your fear in the fray
Let us hold to each other
Until the end of our days
And as the car pulled away from the curb and made its way to the cemetery, Hotch thought of what was left of his life, his marriage, his family, only memories. He knew that he would do anything for his son. And what he had to do now was make sure that Haley would not be forgotten, and Jack would not be alone.
When the hour is upon us
And our beauty surely gone
No you will not be forgotten
No you will not be alone
No you will not be alone
