A/N: I was really bored at a funeral home (was there for a LONG time), and this is what came out. Oddly enough, I was originally trying to write a slash, but it didn't really turn out that way... :: shrugs :: I hope you enjoy it!!

Pippin sighed as he stared at all the people in the Great Dining Hall of Minas Tirith. He placed his chin in his hand and looked over at Merry.

Finally, he uttered the two words that all who knew him dreaded to hear:

"I'm bored."

Merry sighed in his turn. "Whaddya want me to do, Pippin?"

Pippin pouted and shrugged. "I dunno. I'm just bored. Isn't there something else we could do?"

After finishing off his mug of ale, Merry turned slowly to face Pippin, a frown marring his face. In a slightly quavering voice, he said, "Pip, the last time you said that, we went and stole crops from Farmer Maggot. Then – " He paused for dramatic effect – "We got caught up in this little adventure!"

A smile lit Pippin's face. "See? It wasn't so bad then!"

Merry shook his head. "Pip, we've lost a lot of people we cared for. We've been tripped over, stepped on, left behind, and altogether hurt a lot. And this is a good thing?"

"Well, at least we didn't lose Frodo or Sam… or each other," Pippin replied, smiling sheepishly.

A grin took residence on Merry's face. "You're right, Pip! I'm looking at things all wrong!"

He jumped up, danced a little jig, and sat down again, laughing. Pippin stared at him in bewilderment.

"What?" Merry asked.

Pippin shrugged. "That was odd."

Laughing harder, Merry dragged Pippin to his feet and danced him around the hall – much to the amusement of all the men there. Finally, they plopped back down in their seats, both laughing hysterically.

After a few moments, they fell into companionable silence and watched the people around the room.

Then Pippin uttered the three words now most loved by one of his friends:

"Merry, I'm bored…"
