Running through time and space isn't half as fun as people make out

He looked around him. There was blood everywhere. He felt sick, felt himself go weak at the knees. He glanced down and saw Rose holding his arm protectively, possibly the only reason he was still standing. She looked so calm. How could she be so un-fazed by this?

"C'mon Doctor, deep breaths," she said softly, trying to encourage him to take a step forward. "You need to do this," she reminded him gently.

"No. I don't want to, I can't. Look at it all, look around Rose. How can I?" He was panicking now, close to tears.

Rose stood on her tiptoes and planted a light kiss on his cheek. He shut his eyes and, taking a deep breath, he took a step forward. He opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out.

"Shh, it's ok. Let me talk for you," she suggested kindly. She sat the Doctor on a vacant chair. "Stay there, I'll come back in a minute, I promise," she told him. He looked sad, scared and alone without her, still looking around him in fear.

Rose went over to a lady standing at the entrance.

"Hi, we're here to give blood?" she said.
