Azkaban is colder than Lucius has thought.

He knows he is already getting a better deal than many, to have a cell this high above the sea, consequently free of the dampness plaguing the lower floors. He supposes someone in the ministry is anticipating his return to power. Well, it is good to know there are still persons who believe so. Because Lucius has stopped wishing.

He does not see a promising future no matter how this war turns out. If the Light side should win, heavens forbid, he will be forever branded as a Death Eater, and it will be a miracle if he should keep his life, let alone his money and status. Even if the Dark Lord triumphs, Lucius knows he will not be a part of it. The Malfoys has fallen from grace in the eyes of the Dark Lord - Lucius has mucked up one time too many.

Lucius worries how his family fare without him. Draco is likely to fall, and fall hard. He is a spoiled brat, if Lucius is to be honest - the boy is clever, but not so enough to sustain his attitude. As for Narcissa... She will not be of much sway, between their son and her sister. Lucius cannot count on her.

He hates feeling this helpless. There is so much he could be doing, if only he were out. Lucius could make things right again, set records straight. Instead he is stuck here, unable to do anything to alleviate the situation. The ever-worsening situation.

Every new day only brings more despair. Lucius can tell from the shadows across the ceiling that the sun is rising. He has rather hoped that it would not.
