They stood in the middle of chaotic destruction of Command. Try as they might it was going to take time to put everything back right. Sadly, Aeryn let go of the wiring as she sat down wearily. Glancing at John, she watched him for a brief moment.

"I have a bad feeling...about the Command Carrier."

Stopping, John turned his attention to her in concern. "Do you think we shouldn't go?"

"I don't think we have a choice if Scorpius masters wormholes and..."

Resignedly John sat down across from her. "Yes, something's you die for."

Aeryn paused, closing her eyes in pain. After a micro, she opened them slowly, staring into the opposite direction not able to look upon him, as the pain of lost try to resurface. "I just can't watch that happen again."

Staring at the floor, John waited for Aeryn to continue. He knew she need to talk but he ...couldn't ...the pain of what she would say was...

"It was perfect...it was so perfect and you are just like him," she said glancing up at John. "You are him..."

Stating firmly he cut her off, looking up at her. "No. I'm me. I was here." Dropping his eyes, he stares away from her in pain. "I miss that dance."

Turning Aeryn couldn't face the pain reflected in his eyes; she knew she had helped inflect on him. As the other, John's death inflected the pain of lost on her.

John glanced back over at her he could see in every stiff, exhausted line of her body. He could feel her pain and sadness, it mirrored his own. Concern he suggested, "Aeryn, don't come with us."

"No, we started this together, Crichton." Standing, she moved around the mess to escape the room and said wearily. "And that how we will end it."

John's eyes followed her unit she disappeared out the door and down the corridor. Leaning forward onto the table John was silent, he felt himself hopeless, drained of every emotion. The last words she had uttered before leaving flittered around in his tired mind. And that is how we will end it...ending it.

A cold chill was settling permanently in his chest. He had lost. Throughout the time she was away, he had hope. Hope of the day they would be back together. Hope was what had always kept him striving to survive one more day. Aeryn's love gave him the strength to carry on without her until now. Ending it. The words echo repeatedly. He knew she was in pain, but so was he. How could he compete with his own heroic ghost?

Standing, he pushed some of the wiring aside and looked around at the destruction. She was in this to the end. So maybe...a flicker hope started to once more, fill in that chilly place with warmth. He remembered what his father had said to him as a boy. "If you really want something you have to strive for it...fight if you must but never give up hope until you have to."

Squaring his shoulders, he pushed the pain and sorrow back into the deepest, furthers corner of his mind. As long as she was with him there was always a change. There always hope.
