At four in the morning, the crow song would wake him...
...And for just the briefest of moments, Sasuke was seven again. And the last ten years of his life never happened. His brother was his brother, still the pride of his father's legacy and the metaphoric bar that the young shinobi must surpass in order to gain the same sort of love he had always craved. His family was still a constant cushion of support, the streets of the clan compound teeming with the hustle and bustle of daily living. And Sasuke was happy.
But then the moment would pass and all the memories would come flooding back to crowd his thoughts and tease his anger. And Sasuke has to still his crackling hand (When did he have the time to form the Chidori?) before he ended that birdsong forever.
How dare it make him remember? How dare it make him regret?
