"Back Pay"
By J.T. Magnus, 'Turbo'

Nashua, New Hampshire.
When Donna Moss had returned to the campaign with a busted ankle, an unwritten rule had quickly developed; except for Josh and the Governor, she didn't go to anyone, they came to her until she healed.
"Leo!"
The Governor's Campaign Manager stuck his head inside the small office that Donna shared with Ginger, Bonnie, Cathy and Carol, "What is it, Donna?"
Donna held up an opened envelope with her name handwritten on the outside, "This - what is this?"
"It's an envelope," Leo smirked in his 'I know something you don't' way, "If you can't tell that, maybe we need to cut down on the time you spend around Josh."
"Leo..."
He frowned, "Did the Governor teach you that tone in one of your triva exchange sessions?"
Donna reached into the envelope and pulled out two pieces of paper.
Leo shrugged, "Those are your checks for the last two months."
Her face turned downcast, "Leo, I can't take these - I wasn't working for the campaign the last two months."
"Actually, you were," he corrected, "Josh got it in his head that you'd found your calling and would come back sooner or later, so he insisted on keeping you on the records and having your back pay ready when you came back... Don't think I'm doubting you, Donna, but I still can't believe he was right about this, but couldn't remember Jacksonville was in North Carolina."
Donna looked at her checks in surprise, "He did?"
Despite knowing which comment she was referring to, Leo replied, "Yes, he did. Just mention 'Camp Lejeune' around him and watch what happens."
"Leo..." Donna began, laying the papers down on her desk.
"Donna," Leo interrupted, "They're yours, take 'em. If nothing else, you can use them to buy all those salads you keep threatening Josh with."
"Or better yet, some manly food," Josh countered, appearing in the doorway having heard the last few words, "Hey, Leo. Donna, I need the polling stats for the Pacific Northwest, we're a little soft there and I want to figure out a way to shore up our support before the Governor's visit..."
Donna smiled and blinked away a happy tear that was beginning to form, it was time to work...
