Disclaimer: I do not own any of this depressing little tale.
AN: In case it's hard to tell, this is told in present tense and basically in Nellie's POV except it's not 'I did blah blah blah' it's 'Nellie did blah blah blah', third person I think it's called. Anywho, enjoy the show and review when it's over! :D Love you all!
Nellie's feeling fine, she's getting ready to open her shop when all of a sudden she faints, collapsing to the ground. The next think she knows, she is back in bed, with a rag pressed against her head forehead. She feels hot, terribly hot, even with the ice cold rag pressed against her forehead. The sight of Toby's eyes that glittered with unshed tears is heartbreaking. The knowledge of Sweeney murmuring, "everything will be fine, you'll be alright," in an almost hopeful voice makes Nellie's heart leap in a hopeful confusion. What is happening to her anyway? Shortly after, she passes out again.
ST
"She'll be alright, won't she?" Toby's voice.
"'Fraid not," a voice Nellie did not recognize.
"Does she have. . .?" Sweeney.
"Yes, the plague," stranger's voice again. Pass out.
ST
Eyes open. Sweeney's there, another rag pressed against her forehead.
"Where's Toby?" she weakly asks, concerned.
"He's alright, safe in his bed. Don't worry," Sweeney answers. Nellie slightly relaxes.
"So, it seems I've got the plague, huh?" tears well up in her eyes.
"Don't cry," Sweeney begs, voice soft. A tear slides down her cheek. Sweeney brushes it away. Nellie smiles weakly. Pass out.
ST
Eyes open. Heart breaks at sight of Toby's crying form. She holds his hand weakly. Forces a weak smile.
"I love you, Mum!" Toby sobs.
"Love you too."
ST
Eyes open. Feels weaker than usual. Is surprised to see Sweeney's hand in her's. Moreso to see the unshed tears glittering in his eyes. Nellie's eyes immediately tear up as well. She knows what is about to come.
"I love you," she whispers, tear trailing down her cheek. Sweeney brushes the tear away, hand resting on her cheek.
"I love you, too," he whispers back, tear sliding down his cheek. He kisses her gently on the cheek. Nellie squeezes his handm smiling as strong a smile like the ones she flashed all the time before she fell ill.
Nellie dies a happy woman.
