I've been into Digimon since I was seven or something, but at that age I was only able to watch up to episode thirteen of the original series and the movie (in dub however I did watch the sub of the three films recently to see the difference between them) because I had the movie on DVD, but knew someone with a VHS of the first thirteen episodes of the anime. However I was finally able to watch the entire series recently and I realised how much I missed out on when I was little (even got me a little teary-eyed at the final episode)
So, I decided to write some fanfiction on the series. I only know the original cast since I only ever watched that. So, this is my first Digimon fanfic and because of that I'm making it a collection of Oneshots until I feel confident enough to move onto a fully-fleshed out story. Or I'll just stay with this because I have so little time for fanfic right now?
Most of my Digimon Oneshots in this will be either between Adventure, 02 just after episode 24 of 02 since I haven't finished 02 yet or somewhere in the future (For some fun on future stuff and not worrying on continuity). There will be some that could take place during Adventure or just before Tri (I noticed a few plotholes in 02 and Tri that it makes my head hurt of WHERE Tri takes place), but it will depend on what story I'm aiming for. I'll always say in an AN before the story when it takes place so there's no confusion for the time-frame of the story.
This one will take place eight years after Tri, so everyone is in their mid or early twenties.
Anyways Enjoy!
Story 1: Letting Go
"So ... nothing happened?"
"Nope."
The twenty-six year old leader of the former Digidestined narrowed his eyes at the messy, dirty-haired blond sitting across from him. His chocolate, brown eyes were narrowed as if he was squinting at a speck of dirt he wanted to get rid of.
He technically did considering the conversation they were having.
The man tried to keep his cool as he stood up straight, but kept his eyes on the younger man in front of him. "So, nothing happened between you and Kari?"
There was an immidiate shake of the head.
"TK, you might as well come out and say if you got Tai's sister pregnant..." There was a flinch from the blond of what another blond beside the messy-haired brunette just said. He had his arms folded and had a slightly amused look on his face. "...we'll find out sooner or later. Right, Tai?" A slight raise of an eyebrow was aimed at the brunette beside him.
Said brunette turned his head and frowned at the blond. "You're enjoying this way too much, Matt..." He growled out.
Matt could only give off a small shrug at what his friend said before giving him a light pat. "Tai, I get you're protective of your sister, but wouldn't you rather her be with TK; who you've known since he was a little kid than some guy she met at a bar."
"She doesn't go to bars..." Tai muttered to himself, hoping it was the truth.
After all the original Digidestined had graduated they had all taken on their own paths for their futures.
They kept in contact, but it was harder with jobs or University getting in the way.
Once TK and Kari had graduated high school ... Tai knew it would be a matter of time before she met someone to spend the rest of her life with.
He wouldn't be the only important guy in her life anymore...
He let out a short sigh, swallowing. "I...I see you're point."
However Tai's murderous gaze turned back on TK telling him that if he dared hurt his sister in any way then he was in trouble; big trouble.
The twenty-three year old swallowed and smiled back at the two, nervously. "U...Um ...no. Kari and I have been..." He rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. "...sort of going out for three years now..."
The two stared at him and he could practically hear the gnashing of teeth from the protective older Kamiya. "When was she gonna tell me!?" He exclaimed in frustration, upset his sister didn't tell him about this.
"How come you didn't tell me about this till now, Takeru!" Matt exclaimed at his brother, glaring at him as TK slumped down in his seat.
He hated whenever someone used his real name.
It gave him a sense that he was in trouble ... big time.
The two men were about to blow up and chastise about their sibling's relationship details more when the sound of the apartment door unlocking caught their attention and they fell silent.
After a few minutes a young woman around Matt and Tai's age came in carrying some groceries, holding a child's hand. She had shoulder-length strawberry-brown hair and beautiful crimson-brown eyes.
She blinked when she saw the three and frowned. "I thought you went out to work?"
Tai lifted his hands up as if in protest at the accusation. "It was just a small call-back. They said they didn't need me."
"Right..." A short sigh left her lips as she put the groceries on the kitchen counter, letting go of the two-year old as the child wandered into the living room.
He walked by Tai and towards the open balcony door which had been left open by the adults; however the brunette quickly grabbed the back of the toddler's collar, earning a soft giggle from him. "Nope. You're not allowed out there yet."
The balcony door was closed, indicating someone had closed it most preferably Matt; who was sitting closest to it. Tai lifted the messy, reddish-haired boy onto his lap as he continued to glare at TK.
"So it's just dating then?" He asked, raising a brow.
The younger's mouth went into a thin line, nodding his head.
"Good. Because I doubt you want one of these yet, TK," Matt said, pointing at the child that sat in Tai's lap as the Father of said child glared at his friend.
"Watch it, Matt."
"Oh!" The voice caught the three off guard as they turned to Sora; who was grinning at TK like no tomorrow and he didn't like it. "Kari told me the news! Congratulations!"
This immediately sparked the over-protective brother in Tai as he narrowed his gaze at his sister's 'boyfriend'. "What...!" He seethed out through gritted teeth.
TK waved his hands about, nervous and afraid of what Tai could and would do to him. "I...Its not what you think, Tai!"
He knew when things consisted of his sister that Tai would do anything for her.
They had been together for most of their lives unlike him and Matt because of their parents' divorce, but they were still close, especially after all they went through in the Digital World.
However Tai's relationship with his sister was different...
Tai had nearly lost her on many occasions, so it was easy to see why he was so protective of her.
"Then what is it?" Tai growled out.
"Tai, why don't you put Yuki to bed?" Sora pointed out as said man looked down noticing the nodding off two-year old in his lap. "He needs his midday nap."
He gave off a shrug, standing up on his feet with the boy in his arms and walked into one of the rooms to put his son to sleep. TK let out a relieved sigh at this however he only got an amused smirk from his brother and knew that it wasn't over with yet.
Once Tai came back ... there would be questions.
And he'd be the one answering them.
As Tai came back out he stood in the doorway, arms folded and glared at the younger brother of his friend. "Alright, spill."
"I...I..." TK took in a shaky breath before finally deciding that enough was enough.
He had to tell them.
They would find out some day.
Not only that, but with how gossipy girls were ... it was obvious that Kari had told Sora and the news would soon spread to her husband which was the person he wanted to tell least of all: Tai.
Only because ... it felt like he was taking his sister away from him.
He didn't want to be that kind of person to the man who was like a second brother to him.
"She isn't pregnant if that's what you're worried about..." A relieved sigh left Tai's lips and Matt just scoffed as he knew there was more to it then that. "...I actually proposed to her last weekend."
Matt noticed how Tai was getting ready to go on another tangent of ranting before the idiot remembered he'd just put his child to sleep and just went for glaring at TK.
"That's great news, little brother!" Matt exclaimed, grinning at him. He turned his head to look back at Tai. "Though I think someone isn't too happy about it."
"Tai?" Sora had wondered into the lounge area from where she had once been in the kitchen and approached him, putting a hand on his arm causing him to sigh.
"I've always known the day would come when big brother Tai would no longer be needed in her life..." A small sad smile was plastered across his tan features.
TK blinked at hearing this. "What are you talking about, Tai? She'll always see you as someone she looks up to."
A small laugh escaped Tai's lips at hearing this. "Yea, I guess it's more the fact that it's taken so long for me to let go. She's always been the one I have to protect, but..." His eyes looked to Sora and turned his head to look into the room where his son was. "...we've grown up. I've got someone else to protect." He turned his gaze back to TK and gave him a smile. "She'll always be the first person in my life I wanted to protect because she was my sister."
TK nodded his head in understanding as he knew he had gotten this talk from Matt a few years ago when he had realised that since TK was getting older there was no need for him to baby him anymore.
Tai was realising the same thing about Kari now.
As Tai's expression shifted to a more serious one that they used to see a lot on him back in the Digital World when he was in 'Leader Mode'. "Now, she's got someone else to protect her. TK..." Tai let out a breath as if he'd been holding this in for a long time. "...I know that you'll take care of Kari."
TK was in shock at what Tai had just said to him, blinking his eyes he nodded his head at him. "S...Sure. Yes! I promise I will, Tai!"
Matt sat down next to his brother and gave him a noogie. "Who knew Tai could get you so nervous!"
This caused TK to sputter and the other two to look at each other and laugh.
Tai couldn't help it.
He could see Matt's little brother taking care of his sister.
He didn't need to worry about her.
TK just needed to worry about the fact that if he hurt her ... he was a dead man.
'I don't need to think about that yet...'
The reason I chose 'Yuki' for Sora and Tai's son is because it means both 'Snow' and 'Courage' in Japanese it just depends on the Kanji. I think. I don't know Japanese I just used Google-Translate and that's what came up, so hopefully it's right.😓
