Logan slept well into the afternoon, and Max took advantage of this. She snuck into Logan's office and did a search on 'Cale.' Article after article flashed onto the screen and Max was in awe.
"Well, Rich Boy, it's time I meet the family," Max said aloud, picking an article to read.
*Cale Family Parishes*
News got out yesterday that the wealthy Washington family, the well-known Cales, were killed late last week. Not much is known just yet about the cause of death, but Tacoma officials have revealed they have many suspsects. (If anyone knows what happened, or just has a hunch or a good idea, email me at DrkAngll21@hotmail.com. If you help me out here, I'll give you credit and, umm, I don't know what else...)
We do know that young Logan Cale has survived his family's untimely death. Neither Mr. Cale, nor his representitives were available for questioning. More news as we receive it.
Max couldn't believe what she was reading. She looked at Logan sleeping peacefully outside the doorway on the couch.
He's been alone all this time, Max thought to herself. She stood up and walked to the couch, crouching in front of Logan.
"All this time I've told you over and over you don't understand," Max said, storking Logan's cheek, "and all along I was wrong." Max closed her eyes fighting the urge to cry.
What's wrong with me? Max thought, leaning up against the back of the couch, her back now to Logan. Max wiped her eyes. I'm crying, she said in her head, I've never cried over something so stupid. I don't even REMEMBER the last time I cried.
Logan stirred and Max stood up quickly. She looked down at him, searching for an answer to something. His eyes fluttered open, and Max's heart stopped. He squinted up at Max, and then looked for a clock.
"Max?" he said. It was nearly one-thirty! What are you still doing here?" he asked. Max helped him sit up, then took a seat next to him.
"Oh, I don't have to go in until five today. Normal's trying this new shift thing," she explained.
"I see, well, are you going to hang out here then?" Logan wondered, reaching for his glasses. Max shrugged.
"I thought maybe I'd do a little research, if it's all right," Max said. Then, without releazing it, she blurted, "Logan, can I take you somewhere tonite?" Logan looked at her, trying not to smile.
Of course she could, was she crazy, he wanted to tell her. Instead he just nodded, "I'm yours for the night."
"Um, ok," Max said. She felt stupid for asking, because she knew that where she wanted to take Logan he couldn't go. And besides, he's afraid of heights.
