I don't own Pokemon.
R&R please :)
I watched as my son chased a Ratata he had befriended, His giggling echoing though-out the town. His friend was leaning against a tree smirking at him. An off friendship those two had.
My son looked over at me grinning widely, the lightning bolts on his cheeks shining in the sun. I smiled back and he went back to playing.
I looked up at the sky. The clouds were getting dark, It was going to rain soon. Today of all days it just had to rain. I called over to the boys about the rain and they both looked up and headed inside, my son yelling goodbye and waving at the Ratata. They headed upstairs and I headed into the kitchen. My wife was packing food into my backpack.
She looked up at me and smiled.
"You ARE coming home for visits right?" She asked sadly. She didn't want me going, not when we had a four year old son.
"Of course. I'll even call too"
"He'll miss you, you know."
"I know."
I heard it start raining.
"You sure you don't want to wait until tomorrow?"
I shook my head.
"Dad?"
I looked over to the kitchen entrance. There stood my son and his friend.
"Where are you going?"
"I won't be gone long." I said and I looked over at my wife. "I love you."
As I walked past my son, my bag in hand, I ruffled his hair and went out into the rain.
I hated lying.
I wasn't coming back, I couldn't.
Not when death was on my doorstep.
