Chapter 1
Getting to the "safe" haven wasn't that difficult because it was only a few blocks from where I lived. Me and my father were the ones' left in my family after a few of those things got my mom and my brothers. I can't let myself think about things like that, not yet at least.
We drove to the place that we were told to go to by a man that we heard on the radio. Water, food, guns, army infantry, and even more guns, what could go wrong? No one told us that pilling hundreds of people into one building was like ringing the dinner bell.
Me and my father had only been in there for about an hour before things got bad. First, they must have let one of them in by mistake because people in the center of the room started screaming and running around. Maybe one of the infected ones had gotten in and then died while inside. Those things didn't even have to break through the barrier; we let one in. That's when things got really bad. Panic spread through the large mass of people and one monster turned to two, and then two to four.
I saw one of the men, a doctor I think, try to get outside. He was the one that took down the barricade. He was the one that let them in. He was the one that killed most of the people in that building. Twenty or thirty of those things started pilling into the safe haven and then it was all lost.
"Stay close to me Nicole", my dad had told me.
He grabbed my hand and led me through the screaming people until we were outside. Once we were outside I saw a few people getting into the back of a truck. Before I even knew what was happening, my pulled me by my wrist in that direction with a speed that I didn't know he possessed. We got there and we were going to be safe. My father put me in the truck first because he wanted me to be safe. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed someone limping up to my dad and then the thing bit him. I watched as my dad screamed out in pain and then there was a gunshot from the massacre that we'd left behind us.
The bullet hit the monster in the back and he quickly decided to let my dad go and head to the safe haven. Now we are in the truck with some other people and we are headed to some place called Fort Pastor. I hope that this place is better off than the last place. My dad didn't get hurt too bad so I think that he'll be okay.

Now that I think back on that day it makes me cry like I've never cried before. I lost everyone that I ever cared about in one day. I ended up all alone and there was on one there for me. That is until I met Terry. I always tired to keep a positive outlook on life and that hasn't changed. Right now Terry is what I look forward to and he is my positive.
I lost my mom and both brothers in one quick sweep and then, a few hours later, I lost my dad. I lost my dad in this new home of mine, Crossroads Mall. The mall has proven itself to be the only real safe haven. I'm getting better now and Terry is helping a lot. I need to go upstairs right now because he is waiting for me to show him some stars with the telescope. I love him.
