Good Morning People of Fanfiction! It's me, Indigo Nights, presenting a story that I hope will be entertaining. And with these words, I start my disclaimer.
Disclaimer: I do not own The 39 clues or Howl's moving castle.
A long time ago, in a land far away called Ingary, it was quite a terrible thing to born the eldest of three sisters. For you were destined to never amount to much. If you were lucky enough to be born second, perhaps you could end up marrying a well-off merchant, or maybe you may find an agreeable job as a teacher or a cook or a governess to several lovely children.
But, if you were unfortunate enough to be born the eldest, you would always be significantly less lucky than your two sisters.
Amy Hatter was the eldest. Her parents were quite young when they had her. After her mother died when she was two, her father remarried a lovely woman and soon thereafter, they were blessed with a pair of twins. Mrs. Hatter was a kind-hearted woman and she never favored little Reagan and Madison in the least little bit.
Now, you may think that since Amy was the eldest and had no luck whatsoever; she would be plain and ugly, but this was not the case indeed. Amy was an attractive young girl; with fair skin, big green eyes, and red hair. Which, you could say, was the unluckiest thing about her. Perhaps if she had a big nose or an unsightly mole, she could have blamed her misfortune on this and maybe feel a little bit better about herself. When you are the eldest, things that would bless that would normally be very lucky would eventually lead to your unavoidable downfall.
Mr. Arthur Hatter was very proud of his daughters and sent them to the finest school that he could afford. All three were very intelligent, but Amy was by far the most studious. In her free time, while Reagan and Madison were out playing in the woods and getting into mischief, Amy was in the study reading. It seemed to be a suitable thing to do, since she had given up on having an interesting future a long time ago.
When she wasn't reading, Amy was acting as a mediator for her two sisters, who fought a great deal.
"Amy! Madison got mud all over my best shoes!" screamed Reagan.
"I did not!" replied Madison. "You did that yourself!"
"Liar!"
"I am not!"
Amy simply rolled her eyes and threatened to send them to bed without dinner. This worked quite well most of the time, since the younger two liked their food a great deal and would be in low spirits if they didn't get fed.
Amy was also in charge of mending the family clothing. Her parents were very busy running the Hat shop they owned and she was quite good with a needle and thread. Between mending, reading, studying, and solving her sisters' scuffles, Amy was so busy that she almost forgot that she was the eldest and that she was destined to have a dull and boring life. Adulthood seemed so far away, when in fact, adulthood was just hiding behind the corner.
It all started during the winter of her fourteenth year, when her father died.
