Those Three Little Words

Disclaimer: I do not own Legend of Zelda, Nintendo, or anything related to the two! I wish I did, but I don't!

On with the fic!

The sun shone down on Faron Woods. Earthy browns mixed with vibrant shades of green against a light blue background with fluffy white clouds. Link and Zelda stood inside the cupped hands of the goddess statue.

Several loftwings flew by, Groose on the back of one of them. He gave the two a quick wave. Zelda returned the gesture, a slight smile warming her features. Link and Zelda both turned their heads skyward to watch the progress of the birds and riders.

Zelda stood still for a moment, before a brilliant smile graced her face. She turned excitedly to Link. "Look around us! As a child, I always dreamed of a world below. I wanted to see the surface with my own eyes, and feel the land's warm breeze on my skin."

She paused for a moment. "I…I think I want to live here. I always want to feel solid ground beneath my feet, see the clouds above my head, and watch over the Triforce." Another pause. "What about you, Link? What will you do now?"

Link pretended to think for a moment. "Hmm…I could go back to Skyloft, get tackled by Pipit and Karane, both asking me about a bajillion questions. I could go out at night, and get mauled by that crazy remlit Mia…"

Zelda's eyes lit up. "So…" Link tackled her with a hug. "Of course I want to stay here!" Zelda giggled. Link's loftwing, closely followed by Zelda's, soared into the clouds above, as if signaling a new life was about to start.

Zelda suddenly got a nervous look on her face. Link looked at her, and cocked his head to the side. "Link…While I was sleeping in the crystal….I had a lot of time to think about things…" She broke off, losing her courage.

Zelda regained her composure quickly however, and started again. "I had a lot of time to think about things." Link looked at her closely, unsure of where this was going.

"I realized…I…I love you Link."

The silence between them could have been cut with a knife. When she received no answer from her childhood friend, only a shocked look, her eyes started to brim with tears.

"I should have known you wouldn't return my feelings." She started to run, trying to escape from Link's shocked gaze. "Zelda!" He cried, running after her. Apparently, running like a crazy person all over the surface had it's benefits. He caught up with her in a matter of seconds.

He spun her around to face him. "Zelda…" "Don't." She said, trying and failing to hold back the tears that were now falling freely down her face, like tiny rivers. "Zelda." He said in the same commanding voice he used when his loftwing tried to eat his hat.

"When I first laid eyes on you, I thought of you as nothing more than a friend. But as the years went by, I realized I cared about you more than I thought I did. When Ghirihams tornado knocked you down to the surface, I realized I would stop at nothing to see you home safely even if it meant risking my life over stupid temples, lame bosses, snooty enemies, moody dragons, and even a stuck – up robot who called me Master Shortpants."

Zelda giggled a little at the last statement. "I realized….I love you." Link finished, gazing into Zelda's shocked blue gaze.

He leaned his face into hers, and their lips met. When they both broke apart for air, Zelda flung her arms around Link, crying out of happiness. Too bad Hylia! I fell in love with your hero, and there's nothing you can do about it! Zelda thought jubilantly.

"What do we do now?" Link asked, as he fingered her hair. She only smiled as she yanked him down by the collar of his tunic, and they kissed again.
