Everything was all wrong. It wasn't supposed to end like this. Elsa shouldn't have been standing there, kneeling over her dying sister, but there she was. Blood pooled around her precious Anna like a scarlet lake. Her breathing was so faint, Elsa could barely tell her chest was rising and falling. With each second, it seemed she was breathing less and less and her sister felt her heart shattering. Nothing could have prepared her for this moment. Nothing.

"Anna, it's okay. Everything is going to be okay. I'm here and you're going to be alright," Elsa whispered frantically into her sister's auburn braids. "It's nothing more than a little scratch, alright? It's nothing."

Anna's eyes fluttered open slightly, looking longingly up at the sister she knew she was soon to be leaving behind. She only hoped she had enough time to say everything she wanted to say before death welcomed her. Time was running out fast, and each labored breath was filled with desperation. It was now or never to get it all out.

"E-Elsa, I… I know this is my time, and I know I'll never get to see you again. Promise… Promise me you'll take care of yourself, and Kristoff. I can't bear to think of you two in agony over me.."

Elsa started to reply, but she couldn't get the words out. She saw her sister's eyes close for the final time. A last breath escaped her lips, as she managed to whisper her last words. Directed at no one and everyone, Anna whispered,

"I'll always love you…"

Elsa sobbed for a good hour before her eyes went cold. She had nothing left to keep her from the darkness she once feared. From now on, she decided, the cold was coming back and was there to stay.
