"You can go see him now." The nurse said.
With a nod she and left the small group and headed down the corridor. She checked her long, flowing brown hair in a mirror as she passed. It had lost a lot of the frizz that had afflicted it when she was in school. Now in her early thirties, she still had the slender figure from her youth but had lost the slightly hunched gait, from carrying books, and now had a natural, unconscious grace. Her hand hesitated as it touched the handle before she entered the room and sitting on the single chair beside the bed
He was lying on the bed wearing those god awful paper smocks, which open at the back, that every hospital uses, even in the Magical World. He looked up at her with those emerald green eyes, partially obscured by his glasses, that she always got lost in.
"Hey. How are you feeling?" she asked.
"Not too bad. My head hurts. What happened?" He replied.
"You were in an accident." She replied.
He looked around the room trying to match up what he saw with his memory.
"Has he gone to the cafeteria?" He asked after a few minutes of silence.
She was shocked. At school it had always been three, but the third had been gone for years, having walked away from the both of them years ago.
"No. He might show up later." She replied, although that was as likely as a Dark Lord taking up knitting instead of killing.
"How have you been?" he replied. "It's been, what, a few weeks?"
She forced herself to smile, though it was obviously a sad one. She had been with him when he had been injured a few hours previously.
"I'm fine." She paused. "What am I to you?"
"You're my best friend. Why, don't you want to be my fiend anymore?" he said, his brow furrowing in worry.
"You will always be my best friend." She replied.
A nurse knocked on the window in the door.
"I've got to go, but I'll be back to see you tomorrow." She said, raising to leave.
"Looking forward to it." He replied, partly because he was and partly from boredom.
"Do you remember loving me?" she whispered as she closed the door.
She walked back to the waiting room where she was meet by two teenagers, one male and one female, and a ten year old girl. The little girl rushed up to her and hugged her legs. The teenagers approached and both gave her a hug.
"How is he?" the male teen asked.
"He's ok. He'll need to rest here for a while." She replied.
"Can we talk to Daddy?" the little girl said.
"Sorry honey. Maybe in a few days." She replied, reaching down to lift the youngster. "Let's go kids."
"Yes Mum." They replied, the teens following as she started to leave the hospital.
'I'll see you tomorrow, Husband.' She thought, with one last look back.
The End
