Emíl remembered -
Every death mourned, every birth rejoiced; every battle lost, every battle won. The sunrises, the sunsets – the endless days of every summer, enduring nights of the winter. And he loved it.
Not so much the bad things, but the glass was almost always half full. The thing that stood out in his memory the most was that one girl, that small, kind girl with life shining brilliantly from her eyes. Sunna, he called her. The girl who brightened every room she entered.
He was visiting Akeyuri on a buisness trip; and, as usual, went somewhere different almost everytime - wether the old folks' home, the hospital, a school, anywhere. He had decided to visit the foster home. Not usually where he would go, but he haden't been in a long time. The last childeren he visited would be in their early 50's and 60's. Grandparents. People with happy families, childeren and grandchildren taking care of them, loving them, enjoying old tales.
Emíl had always wanted a child, though being a country makes it hard. Even though they were human, and could have families, no one ever did. Being immortal meant they could have a family with humans, but never age with them, never die. The pain of having something wonderful and having it taken away from you was one of the worst. That was why there was the "Asian family" and all the others - Emíl was part of one called "The Nordics". And it did truly feel like a family, him with his 'brother' Lukass, and his Dane Mathias; And Tino and Berwald's little family with Peter. He just felt out of place. He wanted someone to care for – like Lukass with Mathias, and Berwald and Tino with Peter.
