Well we saw how the Fairy King reacted to the birth of Shilo… let's see Griselda's reaction.
Griselda felt a wave of nausea roll over her when she heard the news of Marianne in labor. It was much too soon for a healthy baby to be born! She had the dragonflies saddled and they took off for the boarder and her poor boy and his lovely bride and their, quite possibly dying, baby.
By her late husband's bones they had to be alright. A loss like this would shatter them. Would shatter her…
She spurred her dragonfly onwards, she had to get there for them and they had to be alright!
When she finally made it to the fairy palace she was quickly ushered to the healers wing where Marianne, Bog, and the midwife were already at work.
They informed her it would be best if she stay out in the antechamber and so she sat there watching the King pace. Perhaps he knew it was too soon for a healthy goblin baby to be born, too.
They sat like that for hours. The King pacing, occasionally glancing over at her. Her staring straight ahead focusing on anything positive.
She was faintly aware of Marianne's pretty little sister and her elf husband coming in. The King shared a few words with his daughter when Marianne's scream tore through the rooms, practically confirming Griselda's fears. It was too soon. It was too soon.
She saw the King clutching his younger daughters hands and continued to stare. Straight ahead, lost in a mother's worrying thoughts, for another two hours.
Finally the Midwife emerged wiping Marianne's blood from her hands. The King was to her first, damn his long fairy legs, but Griselda wasn't far behind.
She heard the King ask the on welfare of his daughter and the midwife smiled. That calmed Griselda a bit.
"The Princess Marianne and the Princess Shilo are both well and resting," she purred in that lilting fairy tone. She stepped aside so they might enter and Griselda didn't hesitate.
Marianne handed her the wriggling cooing bundle of limbs. Griselda was immediately smitten with the little pink bundle. She had her father's exoskeleton on her little head, hip, and leg, and one arm was completely goblin, but otherwise she looked like her mother, save her bright blue eyes that were all her father's. Griselda jumped a little when the baby's hidden lower wings buzzed against her arm. Little Shilo had three sets of wings.
"She is so perfect, Bog," Griselda smiled. "You two better be good parents or so help me…"
"Mother," Bog growled a warning.
"I mean it," she said handing the baby back to Marianne. "These girls are the best thing that ever happened to you. You treat 'em right or I'm gonna beat the exoskeleton off you."
Bog rolled his eyes as Marianne smiled up at him and agreed just as the Fairy King, Dawn, and Sunny came into the room after speaking with the midwife.
"Yes, Mother," he grumbled, smiling down at his cooing little bundle laughing and reaching up toward him. She was different. She was perfect. She was the new Princess of the Dark Forest. And she had a fantastic life ahead of her.
Short and sweet. Very loveable. And Griselda is gonna make a great Grama.
