A/N: So, it's been a really long time since I last wrote any fanfiction, and certiantly never in this kind of genre. But I love Marvel, and I love Agents of S.H. .D., so I figured, hey, why not. So I wrote this a few days ago in a class I was really bored in. I haven't read any AoS fanfiction yet, so if it's not in like a specific format or something that they all have, you know why. So, this was inspired by the first episode, where the doctor and agent Hill were talking after Coulson left, and the doctor was like "He still doesn't know" and stuff. So this is what I think really happened. This will contain spoilers for the Avengers and for AoS, just so you know. Enjoy :)
The Device
"It's, uh, finished Director Fury," The Scottish tinged voice said, holding a device in his hand, walking up to the Director, who was standing by a hospital like bed that contained a coma patient.
"It should function correctly, sir," The female said as she stepped up to stand next to her counterpart.
"Should?" Fury asked, whirling around to glare at them with his single eye, the other one being covered by an eye patch.
"Well, no device is without risk," The Scottish voice started.
"But we're pretty sure that this will work," The female finished, her English accent become more pronounced.
Fury grunted turning back to the man in the hospital bed. This specific hospital bed contained one of his favorite agents, his one good eye, Agent Coulson. After being stabbed in the chest with Loki's scepter, and then dying for eight seconds, he had slipped into a coma.
It was now two months after the Battle of New York.
The doctor's didn't believe that he was ever going to wake up.
"Hook it up," The Director ordered after a few seconds.
The two other people, trusted S.H.I.E.L.D science techs, Fitz and Simmons, both jerked into action, hooking the device up to Agent Coulson. In a flurry of quiet bickering about what went where, and some clangs of metal hitting metal, the device was hooked up.
This device was created to put Coulson's mind somewhere else, so when he woke up, as the Director was sure he would, he wouldn't ever know about the coma. The Director didn't know what happened to coma patients, but he wouldn't have Coulson suffering through anything.
"It's finished sir," Simmons said stepping back and looking to the Director.
"Where should we have him think he is?" Fitz asked, poised to program the device.
"Tahiti"
